It’s time to paint up an Age of Sigmar Dankhold Troggoth in this week’s Hobby Highlight!

Today I am showing how I painted a Dankhold Troggoth for Age of Sigmar.

The dim and characterful Dankhold Troggoth is a hilarious model for Gloomspite Gitz in Age of Sigmar. Menacing yet somehow sweet, the Dankhold is covered in fun details. Meant to come from deep, dank caves, this troggoth would be getting a cool/neutral, grey scheme with subtle details. It kind of developed into almost a Great White Shark look, which I followed and ended up with the black shiny eyes. The small details were all kept cool colors to reinforce that cave vibe, with just a bit of pop.

Dankhold Troggoth Paint Scheme

When it came to actually painting the main body of the Dankhold, I went with a progressive drybrush going from a base of Skavenblight Dinge with more and more Ulthuan Grey blended in, with some spots having Nurgling green in the mix for variation. On the face and belly, I went lighter, almost all the way to pure Ulthuan Grey, which was then used as an edge highlight on the face, ears, veins, and highest points. Straps were painted Dryad Bark and subtly highlighted with Mournfang Brown.

The teeth, nails, and bones are Two Thin Coats Vampire Fang, glazed in Skeleton Horde, and re-highlighted with Vampire Fang. Furthermore, the Barnacles were painted with Loren Forest, drybrushed with Nurgling Green, and then washed in Two Thin Coats Battlefield Mud. Bracken fungus is Pink Horror highlighted with a 50:50 Pink Horror/Ulthuan White mix. The base is cork, Vallejo Diorama Effects Dark Earth, 3D printed cave features, slate, and chain. Painted black, drybrushed grey, glazed with Mournfang Brown.
