Age of Sigmar: Stormcast Eternal Spearhead Box – How Much Will This Cost?
Games Workshop showed off a new type of starter box for the Stormcast Eternals and we’re wondering what the price point will be.
We already talked about the upcoming new Stormcast Eternals Spearhead Box and some of those implications. Those implications being we 1) we are getting more Spearhead boxes for other factions and 2) could we see a similar “Combat Patrol” format for AoS. Today, we’re going to take a closer look at the actual contents and figure out if we can guess the price range on this product.
“Led by Yndrasta the Celestial Spear, this boxed set contains 16 plastic Citadel Miniatures, including a Stormstrike Chariot pulled by a pair of Gryph-Chargers. Bulking out the set are a unit each of Vanquishers and Annihilators, and a Knight-Vexillor to proudly carry the banners of the Stormcast Eternals into battle, ablaze with the glorious light of celestial energies.”
Contents
- Yndrasta the Celestial Spear
- Stormstrike Chariot
- Vanquisher
- Annihilators
- Knight-Vexillor
Spearhead Box Pricing Estimates
Now, the way these are list on the warhammer.com website is a little different as a few of these are bundled together:
- Yndrasta the Celestial Spear, Annihilators, Knight-Vexillor = “Thunderstrike Command” for $125
- Vanquishers = $65
- Stormstrike Chariot = $55
Total Individual MSRP: $245
So if this box comes in for less than $200 you’re already getting a deal. That said, I wonder if these Spearhead boxes will be at an even steeper discount. I mean, let’s take a look at a Vanguard box pricing breakdown to compare price points vs value.
Vanguard: Ossiarch Bonereapers $140
Contents:
Mortisan Soulreaper – $33.50
Gothizzar Harvester – $60
5x Kavalos Deathriders -$60
20x Mortek Guard – $60
Total Individual MSRP: $213.50
Total Savings: $73.50
Ironically, the Mortisan Soulreaper is not on the new warhammer.com site. You can only get that model from this Vanguard box now but all the previous links still work. But that’s not the point — Looking at the value of the miniatures in the box vs the price point, you can see the savings. The new Spearhead box is roughly $30 more in miniature value while the price point of a Vanguard box is locked in at $140.
So does that mean the Spearhead will be $30 more than a Vanguard box? Again, let’s look at 40k as the example here. The new Combat Patrols are clocking in at $160. And looking at one of their pricing breakdowns, that seems to be closer to what GW is shooting for. A $160 price would also be in line with the savings we’ve seen previously.
While we don’t have an official price yet, I wouldn’t be shocked if the new Spearheads clocked in around the $160 price point. I would be a little shocked if GW started putting out the latest version of their “Start Collecting” boxes at a $200 price tag though. But if that DOES happen, you might want to snag any Vanguard boxes that have caught your eye sooner rather than later…
Will there be a price increase for Spearheads vs Vanguard boxes? Likely. But you should see more “stuff” in the box overall.
