‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ Hotfix 17 Makes Gale Less Hangry and Fixes Some Mods
Baldur’s Gate 3 gets another update ahead of a major Xbox fix. This time, Gale gets less hangry if you don’t give him a snack.
Baldur’s Gate 3 may well be the game of the year for just about everyone, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be tweaked, improved, and otherwise tinkered with. A recent hotfix does all three, tackling bugs from mild to major, including ones you may never have noticed. It also addresses everyone’s favorite no-longer-stuck-in-a-rock Wizard, Gale, and makes it harder to lose him.
Of course, this isn’t the major fix for the Xbox that many players are waiting for, where some saves have been wiped due to an error with the Microsoft games service. And while there’s currently a workaround for that, the actual fix seems to be in Microsoft’s court.
Still, Hotfix 17 makes the game a little smoother and deals with problems that had been caused by mods. Here’s a look at what you’ll find.
Baldur’s Gate 3 – Hotfix 17
Perhaps the biggest change in Baldur’s Gate 3 Hotfix 17 is that Gale will no longer abandon you if you don’t offer him his favorite snack. In other words, if you haven’t found any magic items that Gale can eat and/or don’t want to give him one when his unusual craving hits, he won’t run off in a tiff.
Unless you make it clear that you’re never going to help him. In which case he leaves. And the route he takes must lead him elsewhere since it seems like you’ll still find all the treasure on the typical paths to Baldur’s Gate.
The other big fix is the size of save files. If you’ve been playing anywhere, but especially on consoles, you may be familiar with Error 544. And even if not, you may have seen just how big some of these save files can get. Two fixes have addressed the sheer scope of them. One fix deals with the compression of savegames, while the other has reduced the size of save files by removing summons that don’t exist in the game anymore.
Some of the other fixes include a tweak to an Honour Mode boss whose powers were lingering well past the point that they should, going through doors is easier, and visual artefacts that would sometimes appear for a single frame on PS5 have been fixed.

Now that Gale is less hangry, maybe you’ll bring him with you more.
