Critical Role’s publishing imprint Darrington Press is giving For the Queen, the game of royal journeys, a gorgeous new 2nd Edition.

Critical Role’s publishing imprint, Darrington Press, announced earlier today that they will be publishing the second edition of For the Queen, which you might remember as that game you played at a convention and it kind of blew your mind.

Described as a “card-based storytelling game”, For the Queen is a game where you and your friends play as attendants, lovers, rivals, confidants, etc. of a Queen, traveling on a royal journey to a distant land. Along the way, you will discover whether or not you’re there to protect the Queen, or are plotting to end her. It’s a surprising game of betrayal and love and devotion, and you’ll never know what’s going to happen until you’re playing.

And soon, it’ll have a gorgeous new 2nd Edition, thanks to Darrington Press.

For the Queen gets 2nd Edition from Darrington Press

Per their announcement earlier today:

Darrington Press has entered its queen era—on the heels of Queen by Midnight, we are thrilled to declare that our next game is a new edition of the beloved storytelling game For the Queen by Diana Jones Award-winning Alex Roberts, coming to tables on May 14, 2024!

For the Queen is an easy-to-learn 2-6 player (or more!) collaborative card-based game in which you must work together to build a tale of love, betrayal, doubt, and devotion towards the Queen. To inspire the Queen of your story, you’ll select one of the 25 beautiful illustrations, or get creative and design your own! With 91 cards included for gameplay, this new edition of For the Queen allows an endless amount of stories, genres, and fun for everyone.

Many of us at Darrington Press have enjoyed the first edition of For the Queen—it’s perfect for playing at conventions and for quick drop-in games, as it’s no-prep and teaches the game as you play! We had the chance to work with Alex Roberts on Till the Last Gasp and are deeply honored to work with her again.

So what’s in the second edition? It is a “complete visual redesign” featuring all-new artwork from new artists, as well as an “enhanced” box (it is magnetic). The rules and question cards have been “improved” so the prompts may be a little clearer for folks just diving into the game.

Look for For the Queen in May!
