Honour Mode got you down? We’re here to help with a quick guide to some of the best feats in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3’s Honour Mode is absolutely unforgiving. While playing it, you get one save file, the enemies have more hit points, hit harder, and may even have new abilities. Anyone who’s died on the beach in the wreckage of a nautiloid knows exactly what I mean.

That’s why people leverage every tool in the toolbox to try and beat/break the game. Yeah, of course, throw a backpack full of alchemist’s fire at your enemies and then set it off. If you can remember to use your temporary items.

But one important thing to keep in mind are feats. And even if you’re familiar with the standard feats in D&D, they play subtly but meaningfully different in Baldur’s Gate 3. For instance, Crossbow Expert doesn’t enable a bonus action attack, it just removes the disadvantage penalty in melee range. Which is nice, but not as game-changing as it is in 5th Edition. Of course, this is because everyone can just make a bonus action attack with an offhand hand crossbow.

With all that in mind, here are some of the best feats in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Tavern Brawler

Let’s start with the biggest change in BG3. Tavern Brawler in 5th Edition is a nothingburger of a feat. It adds +1 to your strength and lets you hit with a d4 damage for your unarmed strike and you can grapple. But in BG3, Tavern Brawler reigns supreme. This feat is a behemoth; in addition to giving you +1 strength, it also gives you your strength bonus twice to both the attack and damage roll with unarmed attacks, improvised, and thrown weapons.

This feat makes Monks play completely differently, and it makes viable so many builds that would otherwise not work at all.

Lucky

This is another game changer of a feat. Especially in Baldur’s Gate 3, where you can use the Lucky Feat after you know the results of the role, gaining Advantage on any Attack Roll, Ability Check, or Saving Throw. This feat lets you negate enemy crits, make sure that your skill checks get hit, or that you pass those saves. It’s just extremely versatile, and works outside of your reaction, so you’re still able to make opportunity attacks or whatever else you might need to.

Great Weapon Master/Sharpshooter

These feats are a classic in D&D 5E and just as strong in Baldur’s Gate 3. While the -5 penalty to hit is a doozy it’s pretty easy to counter it, especially if you have a reliable source of either buffs or advantage. And the +10 extra damage will go a long way, especially in the earliest part of the game.

Polearm Master

Another 5E classic, this one is incredible for your frontline Fighters because they can attack the enemies as they approach. Having the bonus action attack isn’t necessarily as good, since so many characters have a lot of competition for their bonus actions, but the reaction as someone enters your threatened area is amazing. Especially when comboed with something like Sentinel which lets you shutdown enemies who try to slip past you to get to your weaker spellcasters. This happens a lot.

Actor

Sometimes the best way to win a fight is to not have it. The Actor feat is incredible because it gives expertise to both Deception and Performance checks, while also increasing your Charisma. This is extremely powerful on skill-based characters, who already have expertise. When you want to pass every single conversation check out there, this is a fantastic way feat to have to round this out. It’s the only skill feat that grants expertise!

What are your picks for best feats in Baldur’s Gate 3?
