Weird Works and Goodman Games announced that they’re teaming up to bring the Zero Level Rulebook for 5E to a table near you.

Level Zero is something almost like an urban legend around the gaming table. Almost everyone knows someone who’s pitched a game like: “we all start off as commoners, just getting out there and living our lives, and then monsters happen and we don’t level up until we’re in the middle of it.” It’s something that you’ve thought about, even if you’ve never actually done it.

Well, Goodman Games and Weird Works want to change that with the Zero Level Rulebook for 5th Edition. Earlier today, the companies announced that they were teaming up to expand distribution of the book, which promises “funnel adventures” and “mayhem” in the same sentence.

Per the announcement:

Weird Works and Goodman Games are thrilled to announce a partnership to expand distribution of select Weird Works titles, starting with “Zero Level Rulebook for 5E.”

“Weird Works has a modern-day classic with their Zero Level Rulebook for 5E,” said Joseph Goodman of Goodman Games. “It brings the fun and mayhem of zero-level funnel adventures to the enormous audience of 5E gamers. I’m really happy that we have found a way to widen the audience and bring it to gamers nationwide.”

“From the first time I played Goodman Games’ Dungeon Crawl Classics I became a disciple of zero level play, running the games at cons, and getting as many players as I could interested in it,” said Thom Denick of Weird Works. “The Zero Level Rulebook for 5E is the culmination of this, providing rules for rolling up four zero-level commoners in 20 minutes, as well as rules on bringing those characters to level one once they’ve survived their first adventure.”

If anyone knows about zero-level roleplay and the chaotic, often bloody mayhem that follows, it’s Goodman Games, makers of Dungeon Crawl Classics. That system starts off with your characters not being really finished until they’ve survived to level one. A feat not everyone manages!
