‘Dune’s Newest Campaign Book, ‘Fall of the Imperium’ Puts You in the Movie
Modiphius announced a new campaign book for the Dune RPG. In Fall of the Imperium, Dune happens. Can you survive?
The Dune RPG, or Dune: Adventures in the Imperium, as it is more formally known, is a sprawling game full of House intrigues, objectives, and all sorts of characters you can play as. From Mentats to Fremen, from members of one of the notable Houses like Atreides, to members of your own custom House in the Landsraad.
And though there have been a few adventures that come close to mirroring parts of the story of Dune as it happens in the novel and/or movies, none have been about those events directly. Until now.
Modiphius announced a new campaign book, Dune: Fall of the Imperium, which follows the events of Dune and asks, can you and your House survive?
Dune: Fall of the Imperium
Although, a better question might be, can you make it interesting enough to play through, even if you aren’t playing as the Atreides. After all, we all already know what happens. Paul Atreides takes over Arrakis, defeating the Harkonnen with his army of Fremen. He rules for a while, and then eventually becomes an outcast and goes to his death by the time Children of Dune comes around.
Then one of his kids becomes a god-emperor who is also a Sandworm. While the other gives rise to a lineage of humans who are invisible to the sight of oracles. And the whole time there are a lot of questions about free will.
But even zooming back out from that to the events just of Dune, you know, the good one of the series, it’ll be curious to see how they can make the players feel like a part of the events without being overshadowed by the much larger than life characters that people know from reading the book for decades.
It is, as they say in the copy, a deadly balancing act:
“In Dune: Fall of the Imperium, players will face a deadly balancing act as they navigate their House through webs of treachery and deceit. Galactic-wide events spiral into a devastating war across a million worlds, forcing them to decide if they side with the Fremen against the Imperium, and risk the Emperor’s wrath, or remain loyal to the Imperium and face the onslaught of the Fremen’s terrible war.
Dune: Fall of the Imperium is a 144-page, full-color, hardcover campaign sourcebook that offers players four huge acts, each packed with three full-length adventures, additional story seeds, and advice on how to expand the campaign beyond the movie’s explosive finale.”
But if Modiphius can thread that needle, this is an intriguing jumping-off point for a larger campaign. At any rate, you can pre-order Dune: Fall of the Imperium today.
And look for it to be released later this year!
