‘Echo’ is Ready For a Fight in Marvel’s First TV-MA Show
Echo is kicking ass and throwing chairs. Get one last exhilarating preview of the new Marvel series before it premieres tonight.
Maya Lopex, aka Echo, was introduced to the MCU in 2021’s Hawkeye. She’s a deaf amputee and member of the Cheyenne Nation—and is the adopted daughter of Kingpin, a relationship that comes with a set of dangerous complications.
Maya‘s next chapter will follow her as she leaves New York for her hometown to reconnect with her Indigenous roots and mourn her beloved uncle, William Lopez. But she’s not alone. She’s followed by one of Kingpin’s goons who is out for revenge at the behest of the crime boss.
“[Kingpin] still wants her by his side. She shoots him and he realizes that that’s the choice she made, but he still wants her by his side. … What he wants is what he wants and he’ll do whatever he can to get it, even if that’s to take a bullet. … He’s convinced that he’s going to get her back, and that’s where the drama starts in the story because she’s being drawn away from him by something very strong.”

One Last Clip
The last preview is a one vs many fight… that includes some chair-throwing and witty banter in ASL.
Echo is More Than a Comic Book Show
Maya’s native roots aren’t just a backdrop. The show’s creators worked directly with the Choctaw Nation during the entire production to ensure authenticity. It’s also following in Prey‘s (which had a Comanche dub) footsteps; it will have a Choctaw language dub.
Marvel’s Echo Cast & Details
Echo is the first series under the new ‘Marvel Spotlight’ banner, which includes “grounded, character-driven stories” that don’t tie into the big MCU arc. It’s something fans have been asking for since Phase Four started to slump. The mini-series looks more like the Netflix Marvel shows—filled with unflinching violence—than what we’ve seen on Disney+ over the last couple of years.
The cast includes Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning, and Graham Greene. Alaqua Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Zahn McClarnon are reprising their roles. Marion Dayre (Better Call Saul) and Amy Rardin are headwriters, and Sydney Freeland (Reservation Dogs) leads the directing team.
“The five-episode streaming event spotlights Maya Lopez as she is pursued by Wilson Fisk’s criminal empire. When the journey brings her home, she must confront her own family and legacy. All five episodes will stream on Jan. 10 on both platforms. They’ll be available on Hulu until April 9. This marks the first Marvel Studios series to drop all entirely bingeable episodes at once.”
All five episodes drop at once. Initial reviews are positive; they make it seem like it’ll be a great binge-watch.
Echo premieres on Disney+ and Hulu tonight at 6 pm PT / 9 pm ET.
