Free League’s Vaesen RPG Launches on Alchemy Virtual Tabletop Tomorrow
Free League kicks off the new year with a weekend of its Nordic Horror RPG Vaesen, which launches on the Alchemy VTT platform tomorrow.
As the new year starts spinning up its gears for its terrible work, Free League and Alchemy Virtual Tabletop are teaming up to bring the Nordic horror of Vaesen to a virtual tabletop near you. All of this is part of a big weekend of Nordic Horror taking place from January 10th through 14th, because weekends are bigger and better when you don’t live in America, apparently.
As part of the event, Vaesen is launching on Alchemy, a virtual tabletop platform that prides itself on being the go-to place for immersive tabletop tools. It is designed from the ground up for “cinematic immersion and theater of the mind gameplay.”
Vaesen Launches on Alchemy as Part of Virtual Weekend
Enter the Mythic North—a land where the myths are real. In dark forests, beyond the mountains, by black lakes in hidden groves. At your doorstep. In the shadows, something stirs. Strange beings. Twisted creatures, lurking at the edge of vision. Watching. Waiting. Unseen by most, but not by you. You see them for what they really are. Vaesen.
The multiple award-winning Vaesen—Nordic Horror Roleplaying is written by Nils Hintze, based on the work of Swedish illustrator and author Johan Egerkrans. The game presents a dark Gothic setting steeped in Nordic folklore and old myths of Scandinavia. The game mechanics use an adapted version of the award-winning Year Zero Engine.
As part of the “Weekend of Nordic Horror” Free League is working with StartPlaying, a website that matches players with professional GMs; in other words, Uber but for RPGs instead of Uber but for Dogs, which is the version of Uber that we so desperately need in the world of 2024:
Experience nineteenth century Scandinavian horror like never before on the world’s first virtual tabletop (VTT) built specifically for cinematic immersion and theater of the mind gameplay. Alchemy’s scene-based structure empowers gamemasters to tell incredible stories with animated environments, motion effects, ambient sound, and original music.
Throughout the Nordic Horror Weekend event on Start Playing Games, you’ll be able to join experienced GMs (Gamemasters) ready to guide you through immersive mysteries within the Mythic North, regardless of your experience with Alchemy, Vaesen, or tabletop roleplaying games.
As you can see, Alchemy doesn’t just handle the rules, it has atmospheric artwork and ambient sound to play around with. Everything you need in one area, so you don’t have to flip through multiple tabs or books or PDFs, though you probably will anyway, because that’s just how we’re built.
At any rate, the weekend kicks off tomorrow, which is just a wild thing to say.
