‘Frosthaven’ Offers Immersive RPG Gameplay Unlike Any Other — and It’s 20% Off!
Frosthaven is the stand-alone expansion to the ground-breaking board game, Gloomhaven. The same solid gameplay with brand new twists and turns!
Frosthaven, by all accounts, is a board game. But it is so much more. It, along with its predecessor, Gloomhaven, and its expansions, Forgotten Circles and Jaws of the Lion, are fully realized RPGs in a box. The players drive the story, decide key plot points, and build their characters with new abilities and equipment, all the while engaging in epic dungeon-crawling adventures.
Frosthaven Overview
The basic gameplay of Frosthaven is mostly unchanged from Gloomhaven. Players have a hand of duel-purpose cards they use on their turns. They will have to decide how to use their cards to maximize their actions best before they exhaust themselves.
However, Frosthaven learns a lot from the hurdles of its forebearers, but also adds new mechanics and systems. For example, during the Outpost phase, players will be tracking the passage of time, operating building construction and management, and regulating their mercenary actions.
This is mostly important in protecting Frosthaven against invaders with the aid of the town guard. New resources and supplies players can find on their adventures can be used to craft items, perform repairs at Frosthaven, and more.
In addition to these major changes, there are dozens of minor changes to improve the overall flow of gameplay and a few quality-of-life changes as well. These are honestly too numerous to mention them all, but a few highlights:
- More use of icons makes cards easier to understand at a glance
- Modifiers and Advantage are simplified
- Summons are improved in multiple ways
- Season decks replace the city deck
- and literally dozens more
Dive Into the World of Frosthaven Today
Frosthaven is a stand-alone expansion. That means if you already have Gloomhaven or Jaws of the Lion, you can mix your characters with those from Frosthaven. But this box still has everything you’ll need to play on its own.
Frosthaven can be a daunting experience for new gamers. If you are interested in the same experience with a more accessible bar of entry, I highly recommend Tales From the Red Dragon Inn. But for gamers looking for a fully crunchy and in-depth game with more immersion than you can shake a stick at, it does not get better than Frosthaven.
