Goatboy’s Grimdark Armylist: LVO 2024 – “Three-Color” CSMs
Goatboy here again with the “Three-Color” Chaos Space Marine army list I am probably taking to LVO.
I have truly played two different armies these past few events – World Eaters and CSM, respectively. I have won more than lost with both lists and enjoyed both of them. The World Eaters is a very simple list and the CSMs let me shoot a little bit but still run up and punch your army in the mouth as needed. I also have some Chaos Daemon armylist ideas. But since I haven’t had a chance to play with them yet, they will just stay hidden in the warp till I get an event in with them.
CSMs It Is!
The first list I want to pick from is a CSM build. It rejects the Accursed Cultists because I don’t have a unit painted, don’t want to move that many models, and I am pretty sure they are going to get nerfed pretty hard in a month or so. Really the main issue is I don’t want to paint that many models before I have to jet off to LVO. Also – playing with the unit makes my back hurt just thinking about it.
I still need to worry about Accuursed units, as there will be there a lot at LVO. So, I thought why not tweak my “3-Color” CSM build and add some Masters of Possession to do some Precision Pistol shots and remove offending Characters as needed? I think the proper build is to take two of them in two Undivided Chosen units. But we’ll just go with one Chosen and one Possessed unit. I am betting on Possessed getting an update in the new codex, so why not play with them a bit?
The list now truly becomes a “3-Color” build as there are 3 different Marks of Chaos in the army, and fulfills the little fluff bunny that lives inside me. This original build came out from me finding a bunch of heavily converted Khorne-looking marines that were my initial Berserkers. I love the new models, and instead of just letting these old ones die, I thought – why not make them Khorne Chosen and go with it?
This also meant I needed to convert some Nurgle Chosen to help out. Heck, if I could take four units, I would make one Slaanesh, but alas, they are not Battleline. Instead, we’ll just leave a little baby Possessed unit as the Slaanesh option and give me another Advance and Charge option if needed.
Alright, enough chatter. Here is the list. Thank you to my friends for pointing out that you can have the basic Mark on your Rhino, and anyone can ride in it. All those Mark of Nurgle Rhinos are going to be Dark Pacting all day for Exploding 5’s to hit and Nurgle Flies, keeping them safe across the field.

Using the Three-Color CSM List
The Undivided unit has an Exalted Champion to give the unit a +1 to hit, and the Master of Possession can advance and charge to shoot his deadly mind bullets. This gives me a way to remove that pesky Dark Commune leader and remove a unit’s 6+ inv save or get lucky and take out a Technomancer and their 5+ FNP for the Wraiths. It also lets the Combi-Weapons hit on 3+’s which can be great to throw in some Devastating Wounds into a unit nearby.
The big add on is me finishing my Syll’Esske to help hold off the backfield a bit and just be an annoying option that walks up the field. It seems like one of those too-cheap model options we have in the ally side of things. Syll’Esske will for sure do a number to anything basic that gets near. I hope we can have some fun with a long bomb Possessed charge with some exploding 5’s to hit and Devastating Wound nonsense as needed. I hope we get another leader Character for Possessed in the future or at least something to help amp up the AP.
