Marvel: Crisis Protocol – ‘Icons of Bast’ Terrain Set Is A Game Changer

Atomic Mass Games and Asmodee were kind enough to send us the Battle For The Throne Rivals Panel. As I was looking over the terrain I was hoping that we’d get a look at the upcoming terrain pack Icons of Bast. Sure enough they sent us a preview copy of the new kit that arrived this week. So I’m busting it out to talk about why I think this one is a literal game changer.
It’s a BIG box.
Icons of Bast Terrain Pack
I’ve always loved terrain in tabletop games. To me, those kits are kind of like a third faction on the battlefield. Most of the time they are a neutral third party that’s just there to look cool. But sometimes the terrain can get involved. This terrain is one of those “let’s get involved” type sets.
As per usual from Marvel: Crisis Protocol everything comes bagged up. That just makes it easy to pull things out. But this was the first terrain pack that came with some extra rules — and this is what makes it a game changer.
These new “One-Shot” modifiers were teased by Atomic Mass Games before. But in the box you get the new “The Panthers Stood Watch” modifier. Simply put these add the Panther Statues to the mix. It can cause character to generate more power when they take damage. Additionally, these Panther Statues can land next to a Dazed/KO’d character. That can cause the battlefield to shift a bit.
The rules aren’t that earth-shattering. But the concept of these One-Shot modifiers being included as part of the terrain sets is exciting. I’m looking forward to see what else Atomic Mass Games cooks up for these rules.
As for the physical terrain itself: it’s fantastic! Obviously these are going to have a heavy focus on a Wakandan theme. I think the sculptors did an awesome job on this set though. These pieces are going to look right at home next to the Battle For The Throne Rivals Panel set. I was wondering how I was going to fill out a Wakandan-themed table and now I’m well on the way.

Players can add even more Wakanda-themed terrain to their Marvel: Crisis Protocol battlefields in this new pack! Great statues of panthers honoring Bast and Wakanda’s royal line are erected throughout this proud nation, and this pack brings a variety of these statues to the tabletop. Featuring a large panther statue, two small panther statues, and a panther fountain, this pack gives players even more terrain to make Wakanda the backdrop for their Marvel: Crisis Protocol battles. Rounding out the pack is a One-Shot Card that invites players to modify their Crisis into a unique scenario focusing on the terrain in this pack.
Now I just need to finish up building all this awesome new terrain…
