‘Mickey’s Mouse Trap’ – Disney Icon Stars in Gruesome Slasher Parody
Disney’s famous mouse makes his horror debut in Mickey’s Mouse Trap. Check out the first trailer for the new slasher.
Every year, more songs, movies, books, and characters enter the public domain. Last year’s entries included Sherlock Holmes and Winnie the Pooh. The beloved bear got a terrible horror movie (even for a genre film) within a few months. In it, Pooh is out for bloody revenge against Christopher Robin for leaving him and the creatures of the 100 Acre Wood behind.
Yesterday, Pooh’s pal Tigger lost his copyrighted status, as well as Peter Pan. You can see the full list here.
While the two are a big deal, there’s one more that tops the list. After years of Disney fighting the inevitable, the original Steamboat Willie version of Mickey Mouse is now in the public domain. The copyright on the character was extended multiple times by acts of Congress. It stayed in the creator’s hands for 68 extra years.
Mickey’s Mouse Trap
Horror director Jamie Bailey (Deinfluencer) lost no time and dropped a trailer for a mouse-themed slasher less than 24 hours after the character went public. He described the mood during the creation of “the first-ever live-action Mickey Mouse comedy horror feature film” in a statement. This isn’t serious business. Perfect.
“We just wanted to have fun with it all. I mean it’s Steamboat Willie‘s Mickey Mouse murdering people. It’s ridiculous. We ran with it and had fun doing it and I think it shows.”
It all starts in an arcade…
Mickey’s Mouse Trap stars Sophie McIntosh, Callum Sywyk, Allegra Nocita, Ben Harris, Damir Kovic, Mackenzie Mills, Nick Biskupek, and Simon Phillips.
“It’s Alex’s 21st birthday, but she’s stuck at the amusement arcade on a late shift so her friends decide to surprise her, but a masked killer dressed as Mickey Mouse decides to play a game of his own with them which she must survive.”
A release date hasn’t been set.
