A terrifying new prequel explores Damien’s origins. Check out The First Omen‘s ominous first trailer.

The Omen came out in 1976. It tells the story of Robert Thorn and his wife, Kathy, who adopt a child from an orphanage in Rome. The couple name him Damien. As the boy ages, it becomes clear that something isn’t right with him. Ominous events start to happen to the family and those near them. Robert is warned by a priest that Damien isn’t human and that the boy is the antichrist. He must be stopped.

It’s streaming on Hulu right now (along with all of the sequels).

The First Omen Trailer

The first look at the Omen prequel reveals a secret plot in Rome attempting to bring forth the antichrist using a young nun. The setting points to this being Damien’s origin story, but it’s not made entirely clear.

A trailer that doesn’t spoil a movie’s big plot points and scariest scenes! How novel!

This preview is more about setting the tone; its backward-running visuals are creepy and unsettling. My only wish is that this turns out to be better than the last sequel we got for an iconic horror movie – The Exorcist: Believer. The bar isn’t terribly high.

Cast & Details

The cast is led by Nell Tiger Free (Servant). It also includes Tawkeef Barhom (The Rhythm Section), Sonia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman), Ralph Ineson (The Northman), and Bill Nighy. The movie is directed by Arkasha Stevenson (FX’s Legion). The screenplay is by Tim Smith, Arkasha Stevenson, and Keith Thomas (2022’s Firestarter).

“When a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.”

The First Omen arrives in theaters on April 5th.
