Warhammer 40K: The Unbeatable List – LVO 2024!
One list went all the way at the Las Vegas Open. Let’s take a look at who took home the crown – 40K’s latest Unbeatable List.
LVO has come in and gone, and I write this as I sit comfortably back home in the madness that is my house. It was another fun year at the RIO throwing dice, buying cool dice, and just having a blast with friends I don’t get to see all the time. I always tell people they should try a competitive event as it can be a ton of fun. Plus, having a weekend talking about toy soldiers instead of whatever Pokémon/Minecraft nonsense your kids want to wax poetic about can be a nice breakaway.
Big congrats to the Winner – Matt Lorah, running Necrons. They survived all the way to the end after a grueling six games and some shadow-round games to get to the top. That’s a whole lotta ITC points. Will see how the ITC shifts and changes in the coming years with GW running the competitive engine a lot of events run off of. I think it is a good thing overall for the game as it means the company that makes our toys cares about how we competitively smash these toys against each other.

Why is the List Good?
It turns out, being able to teleport things around, dump them out the Monolith, and just wreck things is a good army to play. I know during the last game, his Opponent – an Eldar player – left space where he could move, teleport, and dump out some pain in his backfield. This is the army that the better Necron player will be shifting towards moving forward. We know that as much as Warhammer 40K is about shooting – being able to move all over the place is a huge boon for any list. Heck, it does what Daemons have to spend CP for freely.
Truly, it is a unique list that doesn’t push easily into the C’Tan side of things. It does board control really well, and can just score things like a boss. It is awesome to see Matt get this far with something really different and utilizing the big ole hunk of plastic that is the Monolith. Plus, look at all those Immortals that people thought were trash running as a nice little murder unit.
Thus ends this season of the ITC. Now we wait patiently for an updated Dataslate to come out. We still have a few more months of the current mission pack. So really it is just us waiting for new Codexes and whatever rules tweaks GW deems necessary to bring some armies back into balance. Will this be the final update to get Eldar back where they want them to be? Will CSM get knocked down like it did last Edition after living and breathing with Armor of Contempt. Stay tuned to find out hopefully soon.
Give it up for Matt, and All Hail the Silent King!
