Warhammer 40K: We Need More Chaos Marine ‘Kill Teams’ For Other Legions
The Night Lords are getting a new Kill Team set but why stop there? Bring on the other Chaos Space Marine Legions!
Games Workshop showed off the new Night Lords and their full squad upgrades. They are coming in a Kill Team boxed set and that’s all good news. However, I really think GW is on to something with these Legion specific upgrades.

What’s great about these Night Lords is that they are based off the current Chaos Space Marine kit. What I’m guessing is that GW created a sprue or two with all these additional upgrades and options that essentially “bolt-on” to the current miniatures. You can kind of see what bits have been created by comparing the two units.
And in fact, this isn’t the first time GW has done this for that kit either. Let’s not forget about the Kill Team: Legionaries box which also features some unique upgrade options:
The point is that GW is already doing it. They are making Legion specific upgrades that you can basically add to the current kit. Now they just need to make them for a bunch of the other Chaos Legions.
Imagine these same style upgrades for Word Bearers, Iron Warriors, and Alpha Legion. Sure, they have Forge World and Horus Heresy options but those aren’t based on the current Chaos Space Marine kit. New plastic upgrade sprues for these other legions would be an excellent addition to the range.
Again, this idea isn’t new. GW has created upgrade packs in the past and even had legion specific options. They still have upgrade packs for Noise Marines and I’m hoping we see an Emperor’s Children Codex with a Fulgrim release this edition…but I digress. The fact that GW has created this Night Lords Kill Team is a perfect example of what they could do for those other legions.
Now, here’s hoping they sell the Night Lord Kill Team box as a non-Kill Team box and we just get a “Night Lords Legionaries” box. Followed quickly by the other legions. Then some vehicle upgrade kits, and some Hellbrute upgrades, and some…well, you get the idea.
The next Chaos Space Marine codex is coming in Spring of 2024. I don’t think that’s enough time to have all of these upgrade options out. But if you’re a Night Lords fan, it’s going to be your time to shine!
