Do you have an old Warhammer Fantasy Army that isn’t part of The Old World? Download their army list to try out anyways!

The Old World Almanack is back and this time it’s bringing gifts. If you’ve got an existing collection of miniatures from Warhammer Fantasy and want to give the game a go with them now you can. There are seven Grand Army lists for the legacy factions from Warhammer Fantasy.

“The rules contained within this document allow players the opportunity to try out the Warhammer: The Old World rules using models they may have in their collection. They are not intended for use in matched play events and will not be updated in line with any future Warhammer: the Old World publications.”

While Games Workshop is making it clear that these armies aren’t going to be supported moving forward, they do say that these are complete lists. Furthermore they have this to say about creating these army lists:

“A good deal of care and attention has gone into playtesting and balancing these lists, and each comes with upgrades, magic items, additional spell lores, and army rules.”

That’s an interesting stance to take with these old armies. In fact, at launch, these armies are probably going to be just as balanced as everything else. It might actually be the perfect time to play those old armies in the Old World in Matched Play. If I was going to a tournament, I’d probably check with the Tournament Organizer first — who knows!? They might let you play one of those old armies.

Games Workshop goes on to show off some of the rules for these armies, too. Here’s a few examples they dropped in.

These rules were in reference to Dark Elves and their Witch Elves and Black Ark Corsairs. Here’s a look at some Slann stats:

You know, there’s a new plastic slann kit that’s pretty amazing. I wonder if you could fit that on the correct size base…maybe with a custom stand?

And the final preview is from the Chaos Dwarfs of all armies. Yes, they were a thing (from Forge World late in the game’s life). But if you’ve got one of those even older armies now is your time to shine!

The final thing GW shared is this:

“But while these are complete lists, there are no plans to release miniatures to use them with – the rules are intended for people who already have armies in their collection.”

So if you were hoping to start up a new Vampire Counts army using the old models good luck. You’ll have to find them from a third party. Or maybe you could just buy some of the new Soulblight Gravelords models and go from there…
