When Games Workshop first announced The Old World there was a lot of Kislev hype. So why did all that go ice cold with the launch?

Does anyone else remember this concept art for The Old World?

Those images were from WarCom all the way back in March of 2020. Now, that was right around when COVID-19 was hitting the world and things got weird. Needless to say everyone’s plans changed. The world changed. And I’m sure that Games Workshop had to adapt The Old World plans with the changing environment.

I think that the development of the Kislev army was likely impacted by everything, too. As The Old World project continued, I’m guessing that GW’s focus also shifted a bit. That said, there was clearly some work happening on this range and I’m sure GW has tucked it away for a snowy day. And don’t think I didn’t notice the updates to the Kislev area of the map…

Here’s the first look we had at the Kislev area. This was from WarCom also in March of 2020. Now here’s a look at the same area but from the new The Old World website:

You can actually zoom in on their website and see even more details. But really you can see that more work was added. And Kislev wasn’t just the subject of the map update. There’s things in the works, too. Turns out that Praag is kind of a big deal in the Old World setting. But I’ll let GW explain:

That’s right folks, keep an eye on Kislev. The game is just getting started and the setting really does matter. I have a hunch that GW is going to slowly build up to that point where the Kislev army is going to be a major player as the forces of chaos ramp-up their aggression. If the Destruction of Praag is the “Horus Heresy” moment and the Siege of Kislev is the “Siege of Terra” moment there’s a lot of wiggle room for battles to be fought there.

So will we see a Kislev army enter The Old World? I wouldn’t rule it out just yet. But I also think that part of the project got put on the backburner for a while…

Would you want to play a Kislev Army in The Old World?
