Games Workshop has released the new Battlescroll for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. There’s some big shifts and tons of points tweaks ahead!

We knew this was on the way because GW teased it’s coming on Sunday. We’ve got the latest AoS Metawatch with all the goods on the Battlescroll changes. Just about every army got something adjusted and there’s some changes to the General’s Handbook, too!

We’re not going to hit every change — check your army’s FAQ page for full details. However, we did want to talk about the big overall theme and also touch on the changes that impact every army.

Changes to the General’s Handbook

First up, we’ve got the changes in the GHB. The Magic Hunters now provide a bit of protection against spells and endless spells with a 5+ to ignore those effects. The Drain Their Power battle tactic also got an update so any armies without a Wizard can score it — you just have to bring a hero with a Nullstone Adornment. And Power Flux also got a change to the timing of when you score the VPs for slaying enemy Wizard Heroes.

Points Updates

Naturally, there’s a BUNCH of points changes across the various armies. Here’s the list:

There’s a whole lot of GREEN which means points drops. The vast majority of armies are going to get to take more stuff. Except the Kharadron Overlord who got nailed with some points increases.

Other Themes

From the overall look of the changes it does seem like GW is looking to get more melee action happening in AoS. There’s a push to increase the melee range of several units in the game up to 2″ so they can get more attacks in combat:

“Melee mastery is still the order of the day in the Age of Sigmar, and various units have seen their melee range increased to 2” so they can better fight in two ranks. GorsTzaangorsVanquishersVulkite BerzerkersBladegheist RevenantsDreadscythe Harridans, and Glaivewraith Stalkers all benefit.”

Be on the lookout for the Nighthaunt to really take a big stab in the coming weeks. Additionally, there were some targeted increases to specific units. Again, we won’t cover all of them right now but we did want to call out a couple. Kroxigors got an extra wound, Maw-gruntas got a little easier to manage with their momentum, and Daemon Princes got a big boost to their attacks profile.

And of course there are a few swipes to knock units down a peg, too. In particular, the new kids on the block, Cities of Sigmar, got their Alchemite Warforger’s hit. Blazing Weapons now only applies to melee attacks. The Ossiarch Bonereaper’s subfaction Null Myraid also got their magic defense dropped to a 4+ as well.

There’s quite a bit to chew on and we’re still digesting all these changes. Let us know what stood out to you in the comments. Personally, I’m just focusing on the armies that I play. It looks like I’ve got some points to adjust…

Seriously, check your army’s points. Odds are good you might have some more breathing room!
