Mantic’s ‘Epic Warpath’ Kickstarter Brings Even More Tiny Space Battles To Your Tabletop
Mantic’s new epic scale miniatures game, Epic Warpath, and it’s already blown past it’s Kickstarter goal in 26 minutes!
Do you like apocalyptic sci-fi battles that have tiny little “epic scale” miniatures? Well Mantic has got you covered, with Epic Warpath, a new epic game set in Mantic’s Warpath Sci-Fi universe. You might be familiar with the Warpath setting from games like Warpath or Firefight, or if you’re one of the rare few minis gamers who loves to play sports games, Dreadball or Overdrive.
If not, here’s a quick summary:
The Warpath Universe is the story of aggressive human expansion throughout the galaxy, driven by resource-hungry corporations and their private militaries. This regularly brings them into high-stakes contact with alien civilizations, who may either choose the path of least resistance and join the Galactic Co-Prosperity Sphere (GCPS), or choose to make a stand in the face of the well-resourced and ruthless corporations.
Humans, aliens, sentient viruses. It’s got all that sci-fi goodness. And a Kickstarter for the epic scale battles in this world has smashed onto the scene, funding in under half an hour!
Mantic’s Epic Warpath – Kickstarting Now
Command vast armies of aliens and humankind on distant worlds in the new epic scale miniatures game by Matt Gilbert & Alessio Cavatore.
Now the Warpath Universe has gone epic-scale, with smaller miniatures enabling bigger battles, as commonly seen in historical wargaming. This is an idea that has been brewing in the Mantic Studio for a few years (ever since the award-winning Firefight took up the mantle as the 28mm sci-fi wargaming system) and the team are thrilled to see battles on a new scale come closer to reality. Players will experience epic science-fiction battles, fighting across distant alien worlds with their vast armies of infantry and heavy vehicles.
As you can see, you get all the sci-fi goodness you could hope for. Whether it’s space marines in power armor, space zombies, or ancient aliens with advanced technology, Warpath has it all. And there are so many miniatures to find in the campaign. Each stretch goal unlocks another faction for backers to pick from, so pay attention to this campaign as it unfolds.
How does the game work? Here’s a brief summary:
Objectives are dynamically generated, rather than the game being limited to a small number of set scenarios. In the game, secret actions are issued to each unit (to move, attack, etc) and the player chooses the order in which they activate those units.
The game uses a mix of D8 dice (greater range than a D6, and therefore reduces the need for ‘layers’ of checks to create variety) and command dice (which generate points that can be spent on tactical and faction-specific strategic
orders).
In summary, the rules are clean, fast, and easy to learn, but challenging to master.
