Prepare to be Impaled – ‘Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree’ Trailer Reveals New Enemies, Weapons, and More
The first trailer just dropped for the hotly anticipated Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, and the Lands Between never looked better.
Get ready for more frustratingly fun action in the Lands Between as Elden Ring’s first DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree revealed an expansive new trailer this morning. Full of weird, gross enemies that will swallow you whole, or breathe evil dust on you, or kill you outright in all other creative ways, Shadow of the Erdtree promises to explore what the mysterious, withered Miquella has been up to.
Like any good FromSoft trailer, there’s something for everyone. There’s a ton of new lore hinted at for VaatiVidya and ZullieTheWitch to explain in a few months. You can see a ton of new bosses, including a new figure, Messmer the Impaler, who looks very much like an Empyrean/Omen maaybe? And, everyone’s personal favorite, a whole ton of new weapons and weapon art type moves. Arise, Tarnished, and behold the trailer!
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
In the Land of Shadow, Miquella awaits the return of his promised Lord. That one sentence alone will doubtless kick off hours of exploration and people trying to kill you once more. If you are unfamiliar with the idea behind Shadow of the Erdtree, in the trailer, we learn that the whole game takes place after the Erdtree has fallen.
In fact, it may be following a FromSoft tradition, and the whole thing takes place inside a weird other place where someone is. In this case, it’s a weird egg, where Miquella has been long slumbering.
If you’re wondering why we would be going into that egg, well, that’s where the Land of Shadow is, which you can travel to by touching the withered arm. If you’re wondering what all that means, welcome to Elden Ring, baybee. Miquella is perhaps best known as the brother of the legendary boss Malenia, blade of Miquella, who has been killed so many times by people in underpants with a jar on their heads.
He probably won’t be pleased to hear about all that. But, more importantly, the game promises a ton of new weapons. There are some sweet jump kick-looking moves that happen, perhaps hinting at new claw-type weapons and gameplay. The new boss, Messmer the Impaler looks absolutely rad.
He’s definitely an Omen but maybe also an Empyrean. He’s got a wing, a tail, and it looks like he’s using the powers of the blood god (not the one you’re thinking of) that Mohg used. And perhaps most importantly, the trailer also revealed the release date: June 21st.
So get ready to find out more about the Shadow of the Erdtree. Maybe stock up on some backup controllers, because those boss fights look like total BS.
