‘The Penguin’ Filming Wrapped – Everything We Know About the Series
The Penguin production has wrapped. Find out what you can expect from the series, including the impressive cast list.
Falcone’s henchman is aiming to take over his dead boss’ business in The Penguin – a new Batman miniseries that brings Colin Farrell back as the titular character. After delays caused by last year’s strikes, as of this weekend, filming is complete on the series. The news comes from production designer Kalina Ivanov and her adorable pup.
What is The Penguin About?
At the end of The Batman, Carmine Falcone is dead. Oz is left with a criminal empire to run in a city that’s underwater, allowing for all possibilities. Since it’s a bridge, we’ll likely be seeing the reaction the criminal underworld has to Bruce’s alter-ego and the new breed of mask-wearing villains. The show is pulling in some familiar characters from the comics, plus a new generation of mobsters – Carmine Falcone’s children.
Don’t worry, there won’t be any weird Superman cameos in Penguin‘s gritty world full of criminals and lunatics. The universe Director Matt Reeves’s projects fall under DC Elseworlds and are not going to be tied in with the big DC Studios timeline James Gunn is creating. This pocket universe is going to tell stories of this Gotham, the shows will fill gaps and explore characters. The miniseries will be tightly linked to The Batman sequel; it’s a foundation.
Who is in The Penguin‘s Cast?
The series is helmed by showrunner Lauren LeFranc (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), and Matt Reeves is the executive producer. There will be a mix of directors. Based on comments made in past interviews, the miniseries will be around eight episodes.
The preview that dropped last year gave us our first look at Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone (Carmine’s daughter). The cast also includes David H. Holmes, François Chau, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Deirdre O’Connell, with Clancy Brown (as Salvatore Maroni) and Michael Zegen (as Alberto Falcone, Carmine’s son).
With filming wrapped and a release window set in 2024, we should expect more footage in the coming months.
