‘Total War: Warhammer 3’s Major ‘Shadows of Change’ Update Reworks the DLC in a BIG Way
Total War: Warhammer 3 gets a massive update for the Shadows of Change DLC, with free new units, spells, heroes, and more. Available now!
A new update for the Shadows of Change DLC for Total War: Warhammer 3 seeks to address a number of serious issues with the game. This is just one part of Creative Assembly’s ongoing conversation with their community after a difficult end of 2023. The new Shadows of Change update makes the DLC feel much more like you’re getting what you pay for.
This new, free update for the game, adds a ton for Tzeentch, Cathay, and Kislev. It’s not just the new units, and heroes, though those are a big part. Cathay’s technology tree has been rebalanced. Rampage has been massively reworked. There’s a lot going on in this update.
Shadows of Change DLC Update
Patch 4.2 for Total War: Warhammer 3 and Shadows of Change has been a long time coming. And it looks like it’s worth the wait, at last. Tzeentch gets a spate of new units, starting with the Chaos Lord of Tzeentch, who is highly tuned for close combat, recharging magical barriers and dealing out big hits in combat.
Also in the Lord of Change’s armies, a new Exalted Hero with three heads, Centigors of Tzeentch, and Changebringers that fly on Discs of Tzeentch and rain down fire from above.
Grand Cathay gets Saytang, the Watcher, an amazing new Legendary Hero who wields a massive magical bow but is also surprisingly capable up close and personal.
Accompanying the new hero are many new units, including the Gate Master, Great Moon Bird, and Celestial Lion.
Kislev gets a new golden knight, Naryska Leysa, who wears gold armor into battle and buffs and inspires anyone who happens to be near her. With the magic sword Urson’s Claw, she champions Kislev and the Ice Queen.
Kislevites also get the noble hero Druzhina, a devastating Frost Wyrm, Kislevite Warriors, and a whole new Lore of the Hag for Mother Ostankya and her Hag Witches.
All of this is just scratching the surface, though. Corruption has been reworked, visually. Rampage has been completely overhauled:
If your unit has Rampage, they will be uncontrollable, if they do not, they function as normal. The random movement exhibited by rampaging units if there are no enemy units nearby is new behaviour, as units used to just stand still in their rampaging state if there were no enemies nearby. We made this change so that Rampage can now be used from a distance to remotely disrupt formations if required. this makes some of the spells and abilities that apply Rampage (particularly some of the Slaanesh abilities) quite potent.
And there are plenty of updates to Lizardmen, Beastmen, Greenskins, and more.
