Warhammer: Underworlds – Classic Warbands Return With New Rivals Updates
Warhammer: Underworlds is bringing back four of the classic Warbands with new updates in the form of Rivals Decks.
Games Workshop has announced that a tetrad of Underworlds Warbands from the early days are making a comeback. If you missed them the first go around now is the time to complete your collection. And even if you already have them you might be interested in their new Rivals Decks, too.
“Rivals of the Mirrored City is a new kind of expansion. It updates a quarrelsome quartet from the early days of Warhammer Underworlds with updated rules and a new Rivals deck each. Every warband offers a different gameplay experience, making this a great addition to an experienced player’s collection, and the ideal next step for new players who’ve used the easy-to-learn Rivals format to introduce friends to the game.”
Classic Warbands Return
This new set is reaching back to the early days of Warhammer Underworlds with these warbands. Let’s take a quick look at each warband returning and what they can do.
Thorns of the Briar Queen
This Warband was originally released as part of the Nightvault set. Featuring more than a few Nighthaunt Chainrasps this warband can overwhelm your foes with ethereal bodies — which can pretty much move anywhere. Oh, and they are one of two warbands in the set that can also sling spells! If you’re looking for a surprisingly durable force that can attack from many angles this one is for you!
Mollog’s Mob
Also returning from the Nightvault era, Mollog’s Mob is here to smash and grab like only a Dankhold Troggoth can! Mollog is Warhammer Underworlds single most powerful fighter with a whopping seven wounds to chew through. His accompanying team of squigs are really just there to support him. As long as you can keep him in the fight there’s few fighters that can go toe-to-toe with Mollog!
Zarbag’s Gitz
Yet another warband from the Nightvault era Zarbag’s Gitz bring all the Night Goblins Moonclan Gitz you can feasibly squeeze in a skirmish game. It’s actually a rather diverse crowd of members that can pretty much do it all — albeit (mostly) poorly. At least if you throw them in one-on-one. But when does a Git ever fight one-on-one. With nine bodies in this warband (and a little magic to boot) you’ll be able to swarm your foes and really control the board.
Spiteclaw’s Swarm
This warband is the only one NOT from the Nightvault era — it’s from the early days of Shadespire! Being Skaven they are also not exactly the toughest of fighters around. However, they are of a certain quality and they also bring a fair bit of quantity with them. How? Because they are one of the few warbands that have the ability to return slain fighters to the field! So toss them into the battle because there’s always more waiting in the wings.
Now, as far as cards and Rivals decks go these did get some updates:
“All of the cards featured in this set have gone through a careful process of modernisation to keep the original flavour of the warbands intact, while updating their gameplay for the current season of Warhammer Underworlds. Their previous cards are all nevertheless still valid in Relic format, while the new decks can be combined with a Universal Rivals deck to vastly expand their options in Nemesis format.”
It doesn’t matter if you’re brand new to Warhammer: Underworlds or a day one Veteran, this set will get you up and playing with these classic warbands in no time!
They’re back and ready to rumble!
