D&D and LEGO Unveil ‘The Red Dragon’s Tale’ And Adventurer Minifigs
Wizards of the Coast and LEGO unveiled the winning design from the LEGO Ideas D&D contest last year. Check out Red Dragon’s Tale.
D&D and LEGO seem like a match made in heaven. After all, both encourage creativity and imagination while using lots of little pieces that are extremely painful to step on. Anyone who has ever “found” a D4 the hard way can tell you.
And today, folks can see just how complementary the two concepts are, as Wizards of the Coast and the LEGO Group unveil the new LEGO Ideas Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale set. This fan-designed creation—the winning entry from the LEGO Ideas D&D contest last year—is a LEGO representation of the venerable RPG in all its glory.
Naturally, it all starts with a Tavern. There’s even a dungeon here—and a dragon! And a beholder. As well as several adventurer minifigs that will fill out any LEGO collection. Let’s take a look!
LEGO Ideas: Dungeons & Dragons – Red Dragon’s Tale
Red Dragon’s Tale is a chonky LEGO set, weighing in at 3,745 pieces. In it, you’ll find the parts to make a D&D scene out of many a campaign. The detailed kit features a multi-level tavern with a removable roof. On top of that, there’s a dungeon and tower, ready to be explored by a party of six new LEGO minifigures: Orc Rogue, Gnome Fighter, Elf Wizard, and Dwarf Cleric.
They’ll have plenty of LEGO monsters to fight, including three brick-built monsters, the Beholder, Owlbear, and Displacer Beast, and of course, Cinderhowl, the Red Dragon who not only breathes fire but wraps around the tower.
The winning kit was chosen from more than 600 different designs, and is the work of Lucas Bolt, also known as BoltBuilds, from Amsterdam. Bolt worked with the LEGO Design team to convert his winning design into the final set seen here.
But, it wouldn’t be Dungeons & Dragons without an adventure. And included alongside this new LGO set, is a brand new adventure that’s available as a free digital download on D&D Beyond or from LEGO.com, starting April 1st.
Accompanying the adventure and LEGO kit release, an actual play show featuring Anjali “Symmetra” Bhimani as well as D&D content creators Ginny Di and Luis Carazo, joining LEGO Designer Jordan Scott and the winner, Lucas Bolt, in an actual play premiering April 6th!
Now the question is, how to build a set of LEGO polyhedral dice that you can roll while playing your LEGO adventure through your LEGO D&D set.
Look for the Red Dragon’s Tale set in April!
