Check out a new featured Commander to add to your build list! This week features Arcade Gannon, a brilliant scientist who knows death isn’t the end if you study hard enough.

Welcome Planeswalkers and Praetors to our new series about the best casual experience in Magic: Commander. For the uninitiated, Commander is a semi-casual format for Magic: the Gathering. You use a deck of 100 cards led by a legendary creature, aka, your Commander.

Aside from basic lands, you are only allowed one copy of each card in the deck. Moreover, you can only include cards in your Commander’s “color identity” or artifacts. Each color and color combo has a unique playstyle and a wealth of mighty generals to lead your deck to victory. EDHRec.com is an excellent source for Commander info and can give you ideas to build your next Commander deck or tune an existing one.

The Commander

Hailing from the new Fallout set, Arcade has set himself apart as a breakout Commander thanks to his Azorious colors and interesting effects. On the surface, he’s a card engine and hand fixer, but he gets really great once you get some quest counters on him.

Once per turn, you can cast an artifact or Human from your graveyard with CMC equal to the number of quest counters on Arcade. That’s an amazing ability, especially when you think about the number of zero-cost sacrifice artifacts out there. You can cycle a Lotus Petal, get back a Mox, or just make sure that your Mana fixers stay around.

If you want to get your bigger spells out faster, you’ll want to get extra quest counters on Arcade. Proliferate is a great enabler, and Inexorable Tide is the best proliferate enabler. It gives you extra counters every time you cast a spell, so you’ll be generating quest, +1/+1, and even energy counters at record speed. Whatever artifact variant you’re after, this enchantment will help you get there.

Another counter doubler, Lae’zel can make sure you get all your artifacts to the field faster. Every time you activate Arcade’s effect, you get two counters instead of just one, so you’ll be getting your best stuff out faster.

MTG is ever-changing, with new busted and broken cards rising to the top. Check back in next week for another featured Commander.
