Star Wars: Shatterpoint – Death & Dark Troopers Rules Preview Wants You To Enlist Now
The Galactic Empire experimented to create their perfect soldiers. Death and Dark Troopers are the result. Now they take to the tabletop!
Moff Gideon is bringing some backup with his release into Star Wars: Shatterpoint. Today we’re getting a look at the rules previews for that backup with the Death and Dark Troopers. Will these experimental Troopers make the cut into your lists? Let’s see what they can do.
“Moff Gideon has been at the helm of several notable attempts to create especially formidable stormtroopers and combat droids, resulting in the Death Troopers and Dark Troopers, both favored for his own operations. “
Death Troopers
First up we have the Death Trooper Escort. This is the Secondary Unit that you can opt to take. Death Troopers are actually the older of the two “experiments” to create the perfect soldiers. With advanced training, armor, and weapons the Death Troopers still have that “human element” to them. That can make them a little unpredictable. However, they have proven to be capable in the field and are still models of “Imperial Efficiency.”
As you can see from the mix of abilities and combat options above the Death Trooper Escort is a solid option to take as a Secondary Unit. Make no mistake, they are elite soldiers and are able to stand up to many foes on the battlefield. They are accurate and deadly in both ranged and melee combat and their Attack Expertise Charts are also quite effective. You can opt for more damage output or options that will mess with the foe with disarming and pinning.
Dark Troopers
The Dark Troopers that fight alongside the Death Trooper Escort are also good examples of that Imperial Efficiency. They are Droids who have been equipped with a variety of hardware — experimental weapons, armor, and wargear. They may lack some of the “creativity” of a human but their predictability also leads to results. They can be tougher to take out and single minded in their mission. They are an unrelenting tide that has to be dealt with or they will overwhelm the enemy.
The Dark Troopers can be surprisingly fast as they move forward. Not only do they have the ability to jump to higher ground but they are also immune to being pushed, pulled, or pinned. They just don’t stop moving where they are directed. And if your opponent relies on movement tricks to slow their advance they are in for a shock.
Their Combat Programming is really more about allowing them to continue to fight on and is less about being “sharpshooters” in the fight. They can still dish out the damage but that’s not the main reason you take them into combat. They stick around and soak up the hits while the Death Troopers do their thing.
The Death and Dark Troopers are available for Pre-order now and will be shipping in April of this year.
When the Death and Dark Troopers show up you know someone means business.
