‘The Penguin’ – Oz Leads a Violent Take Over in First Trailer
Falcone’s henchman aims to take over his dead boss’ business in The Penguin. Check out the brutal first trailer.
At the end of The Batman, Carmine Falcone is dead, leaving his operations leaderless in a city that’s underwater. His number two, Oswald Cobblepot, thinks he’s next in line, but there are others who think they are the rightful heirs to the throne.
Along with Oz’s ambitions to take over the largest criminal enterprise in Gotham, the reaction the criminal underworld has to Bruce’s alter-ego and the new breed of mask-wearing villains will be big plot points. The show is pulling in some familiar characters from the comics, plus a new generation of mobsters – Carmine Falcone’s children.
The Penguin Trailer
The first trailer dives into Penguin’s gritty world full of criminals and lunatics. Oz’s takeover of Falcone’s organization is not a peaceful one. Not even close.
Director Matt Reeves’s projects fall under DC Elseworlds, so this won’t tie into James Gunn’s DCU. This pocket universe will tell stories of Gotham, and the shows will fill gaps and explore characters. The Penguin will be tightly linked to The Batman sequel (which has been pushed back to 2026); it’s a foundation. Plans for a series based on Arkham have also been discussed.
Cast & Details
Along with Farrell, the series stars Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone (Carmine’s daughter), Clancy Brown (as Salvatore Maroni), and Michael Zegen (as Alberto Falcone, Carmine’s son). The cast also includes David H. Holmes, François Chau, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Deirdre O’Connell.
The series is helmed by showrunner Lauren LeFranc (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), and Matt Reeves is the executive producer. There will be a mix of directors. Based on comments made in past interviews, the miniseries will be around eight episodes.
The Penguin arrives on Max this fall.
