‘X-Men ’97’ – Cyclops Cops an Attitude in New Retro Style Teaser
X-Men ’97 isn’t just bringing back the animation style of the original; it’s bringing its attitude and snarky sense of humor, too.
X-Men: The Animated Series ran for five seasons on Fox Kids from 1992 to 1997. Along with Batman: The Animated Series, it was a gateway to the world of comics for many elder Millenials. The series focuses on the core team led by Professor X and his power amplifying Cerebro. Its stories were more than surface-level kid stuff that included adaptations of plots by Chris Clairmont and Stan Lee. Episodes were filled with action-filled battles and lessons on everything from ‘It’s ok to be different’ to the AIDS crisis.
And its theme song is still stuck in our heads decades later.
The X-Men Return
X-Men ’97 picks up where the original series dropped off. After Xavier’s death, the team has to keep Xavier’s goal of a world where mutants aren’t persecuted alive. In the first trailer, anti-mutant protests continue, armed forces prepare for battle, and an old frenemy takes a new role.
“We have to say vigilant; the professor entrusted us with his dream.” – Cyclops
The animated series brings back much of the voice cast (including Cal Dodd as Wolverine) and the epic opening music. It also brings back the original’s Jim Lee-inspired animation style with a few modern tweaks.
The latest retro TV spot has some new scenes and plenty of attitude from the team.
