D&D: ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’s Karlach Showed Up at ‘Ring of Honor’ Ready to Fight
Ring of Honor champion Athena brought Baldur’s Gate 3 to the Supercard of Honor by way of an amazing Karlach-themed intro.
Somebody call Powerman 5000 because it turns out this is what it’s like when worlds collide. This weekend, wrestling fans and Baldur’s Gate 3 fans alike were given an absolute treat as Athena, of Ring of Honor fame, made her entrance to the Supercard of Honor pay-per-view spectacular dressed as everyone’s favorite tiefling with a lust for life and infernal engine for a heart, Karlach.
Athena appeared in a blaze of absolute glory, carrying a great axe and wearing Karlach’s signature Barbarian leathers. If the clips are to be believed, this move surprised and delighted fans and one announcer in particular.
Athena as Karlach – A Match made in PPV Heaven
Athena’s entrance is absolutely fantastic. Stalking into flames that bathed the entire arena in an infernal red, this was absolutely how Karlach would have made an entrance. Athena was quick to thank both Larian Studios and Wizards of the Coast on Twitter, saying:
“A massive thank you to @larianstudios and @Wizards_DnD for letting me be my favorite character from @baldursgate3 Karlach!!!!
With love and anger,
Your #ForeverROHChamp and #DNDNerd – Athena”
And the reception was amazing. Karlach’s actor, Samantha Béart had so much praise for the rendition:
Of course, Wrestlers and D&D go back quite a ways. In fact, this isn’t the first time Athena has crossed paths with D&D. Ember Moon, famously, was based on Drizzt Do’Urden, the most well-known Drow Ranger in the Realms.
Back before all the good wrestlers started migrating over to AEW, WotC even featured a number of WWE superstars in their very own live game back during the heady days of D&D Live in 2020. However, the less you think about what happened in 2020, the better.
This crossover isn’t even the first time video games have made the jump to wrestling. Cody Rhodes once dressed up as Venom Snake from Metal Gear Solid. And who could forget Kenny Omega showing up as the one-winged angel himself?
This goes to say that reality is fluid. And Karlach’s rage, as Béart points out, cannot be contained by even the most firm of boundaries. So, however, you may have left her in your last playthrough; there’s no denying the impact that Karlach has left on the world.
All this was not even a year after the release. Imagine the impact a few years on, as more and more of the world comes to know the gang from Baldur’s Gate 3.
