The Boys Season 4 ups the stakes even higher—the world is on the brink of disaster and Homelander is ready to take over.

It’s been two years since Butcher and Homelander’s tragic faceoff at the end of Season 3. Fans don’t have much longer till the next season arrives. Showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed that the entire production has wrapped and is ready to hit Prime Video on June 13th.

What to Expect in The Boys Season 4

Last season ended with Homelander claiming his son and Butcher finding out that his use of Temp V is killing him. The two enemies are going into the new season with different views of the world. Butcher’s imminent death, loss of Becca’s son, and losing his position with The Boys make him care even less about his own survival and more about his personal vendetta.

While Butcher plans his revenge, Homelander is facing a murder charge that pits him against Starlight. And in the background, he’s consolidating his power – reaching beyond Vought and aiming to control the government by securing the White House. Victoria Neuman is on her way to taking the nation’s seat of power while under his thumb.

The stakes have never been higher.

The two will be faced with one another again this season. Showrunner Eric Kripke has revealed details about the two character’s motivations.

“[Butcher] has a serious problem. He has a very loudly-ticking clock. He needs to get Ryan out of there, he’s hoping to still be able to destroy Homelander… what’s just really been interesting is when you’re really facing your own mortality and you’re really on the way out the door, you start really thinking about what’s important to you, and what do you want to do with the time you have left?

“So, he’s going to have to prioritize. He’s going to have to decide which of those goals are the most important to him and go after them, whether or not it’s what the CIA wants him to do or the other Boys want him to do. He has to focus on what’s important before he dies.”

When asked about the future of Homelander’s relationship with his son, Kripke didn’t mince words. The battle for Ryan’s future is going to be a big part of the season.

“No, Homelander’s a piece of shit, even if he cares for his son. If allowed to raise Ryan, he will raise Ryan to be a second Homelander, which will have apocalyptic stakes. If he stays in that environment, he’s on his way to becoming another Homelander. And so I think it’s a hint at what one of the major conflicts in season four will be, which is Butcher and Homelander having this battle over Ryan.”

Season 4 Cast

The new season brings back Antony Starr as Homelander, Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk, Tomer Capone as Frenchie, along with Cameron Crovetti as Ryan, Chace Crawford as The Deep, and Jessie T. Usher as A-Train.

Cameron Crovetti (who plays Homelander’s son, Ryan) is being bumped to series regular, which makes sense given the finale of last season. Jeffery Dean Morgan‘s schedule finally lined up for a cameo.

In August two new cast members were announced. Susan Heyward as Sister Sage and Valorie Curry as Firecracker. Not much is known about them. The studio has stated that details “will be kept under wraps until the season airs.” Neither character crosses over with the comics or the spin-off, so we’ll have to wait to see where their allegiances lie and what kind of diabolical schemes they’ll be a part of.

The Boys Season 4 Trailer

Homelander is tearing down the country and building an empire, while Butcher considers his next move in this first look. Hopefully, we’ll be getting another trailer soon.

Kripke mentioned last year—before the WGA strike—that this won’t be the last season. As we all know, that could be good, or it could stretch the story too far. We’ll see when the new season drops this summer.
