Warhammer 40K: Adeptus Custodes ‘Revered Companions’ Makes A Case For Teamwork
Adeptus Custodes might want to take more than a few Sisters of Silence when the new codex drops. Teamwork makes the dream work.
Games Workshop showed off some of the new rules for the Adeptus Custodes yesterday. I wanted to point out a few things that jumped out to me in from their notes and why Revered Companions might actually provide a really strong case to bring some Sisters of Silence. First up, let’s look at the Detachment rule to start:
Revered Companions
This Detachment rule really spices things up and encourages you to bring the Sister of Silence in you lists. For starters, you get Null Aegis for these units. That provides some nice bubbles of defense for your Custodes with a 5+ Feel No Pain vs Psychic Attacks and mortal wounds — both of which are a weakness for the Custodes.
On top of that, you also get a +1 on your to hit roll for your Sisters of Silence, too. At that point, they are basically hitting with the same accuracy as most of your Custodes units.
Considering how cheap these units are (relative to Custodes) you could sprinkle in a couple squads just to round out your lists to take advantage of these boosts. I’m not even going to get into the Stratagems either.
“But why would I take these over the current version of Shield Host? Aegis of the Emperor already gives the Adeptus Custodes a 4+ Feel No Pain against mortal wounds.”
That is a good point. But that’s only true for now. Games Workshop dropped this little tidbit which is the second reason you might want to consider swapping Detachments:
“Unlike most of the new Codexes released so far, Codex: Adeptus Custodes makes some major changes to its Shield Host Detachment from the index – so many, in fact, that it’s practically a whole new Detachment. “
What changes did they make? That’s another good question that we just don’t have an answer to yet. Aegis of the Emperor might have been changed considerably with the Shield Host rework. Or it might be the exact same. We’ll have to wait to find out…
I’ll be frank, I didn’t really think that the Sisters of Silence were really worth taking in a Custodes list before. While they did have a nice anti-psyker ability they just didn’t provide much else that the other elements couldn’t already do. Plus, it’s more models to paint.
But when the new codex drops, I’d take a closer look at their options. I could certainly see bringing a unit of Vigilator to keep close to a unit or two of Custodes for the defensive boost. And woe be to any Psykers that get within charge range! If the current points stay the same, I’m sure finding 65 points to slot 5 Sisters in is doable.
If Aegis of the Emperor gets a complete re-work, are you going to explore Revered Companions as an alternative?
