Games Workshop is totally not setting up Codex: Emperor’s Children to be released at a later date. Totally…

Today GW announced that the chaotic Emperor’s Children Cult Trooper (aka Noise Marines) and Lucius the Eternal will not be showing up in the forthcoming Codex: Chaos Space Marines. That said, they are still getting rules in the form of a new Index. The Index will be free to download at a later date, likely when the Chaos Space Marine Codex comes out.

It’s worth noting that the Noise Marines aren’t going away from CSM either as you’ll be able to add them via allies. And now you’ll have the option to run them as a full army, too.

via Warhammer Community

“They still have the Dark Pacts army rule you know and love, and besides needing to pick the SLAANESH keyword for anything that gets the choice – like Daemon Princes – you’re free to use whatever you like from the big buffet of units and Detachments that is Codex: Chaos Space Marines. You’ll also need to put Lucius in the WARLORD’s chair – prideful fellow that he is – but let’s be honest, you were probably going to do that anyway.”

Codex: Emperor’s Children Imminent?

Here’s where we get to the thing everyone wants to know: Does this mean a new Emperor’s Children Codex is in the works? Games Workshop is denying that it’s coming “for the foreseeable future.”

“You might think that this heralds the imminent announcement of a new Codex, perhaps one bound in human skin and painted in garish colours – but if so, it’s too distant for even Warhammer Community’s astropathic choir to detect any signals, and we got a stern talking to from the Inquisitors for even trying. We can only assume we’re safe for the foreseeable future, but if that changes then we’ll let you know.”

I do actually believe GW when they say that there’s not an Emperor’s Children codex coming out soon. But soon is relative. The simple fact remains that the Emperor’s Children would be the final set of OG Chaos Legion troops to get their own Codex. The World Eaters, Death Guard, and Thousand Sons have all gotten their books as well as their Daemon Primarchs, too.

And lets not forget the massive reveal for Fulgrim…in the Horus Heresy.

Personally, I think part of the reason GW opted to pull these units from the CSM codex is twofold. 1) Noise Marines are the final cult troop in the CSM book. Removing them allows CSM to just be focused on undivided units. 2) These models are old and it gives them a chance to remove them for a later update.

The Noise Marine upgrade kit was also designed to work with the old Chaos Space Marine models and not the new ones — more evidence to the whole “these models are old and need an update.”

That said, at the end of the day we know a few things are true:

  • Noise Marines and Lucius the Eternal are being removed from the CSM Codex
  • Emperor’s Children are getting an Index
  • GW has stated a new Emperor’s Children Codex is not coming in “the foreseeable future”

What happens past “the foreseeable future” is anyone’s guess…

Yep. GW is Totally not going to put out an Emperor’s Children codex for 10th edition.
