Warhammer 40K: Wait, Was Commander Farsight Always A Khorne Follower?
Commander Farsight and Khorne walk hand in hand. How did we all miss this?
Commander Shas’O Vior’la Shovah Kais Mont’yr, better known as Farsight, is a major hero of the T’au Empire. Indeed he’s kind of one of the big heroes of 40K. A brilliant tactical thinker, he’s a real legend and does a lot to beat back the worst foes in the galaxy. To many Warhammer 40K fans, the T’au are the closest to “good guys” that 40K has. Farsight, or O’Shovah is often seen as one of the most heroic figures in the setting. This might be a big mistake. New evidence suggests we’ve been misunderstanding him this whole time. In fact, Farsight might be a much darker person than we thought.
Tempted By Khorne
Lat Edition’s Arks of Omen: Farsight focused a lot on the titular character. The book has a lot of things go down. During the course of it, old Commander Farsight finds himself tempted. Tempted in particular by the Chaos god Khorne. He even has visions of himself falling to the god, something that most people thought could not happen to T’au. Farsight even kind of… sort of… summons some daemons to help him win a war against the hated Ork foes. Now while the Commander doesn’t fall to the Blood God here… it’s clear they have had a connection for a long time. And like… wow, how have we all missed this (or was it just me)? Like obviously, he does. Let’s take a look at all the signs we missed.
Break With The Ethereals
The Ethereal Caste help to hold the T’au Empire together. Through the use of some shady stuff (mind control), they keep everyone working for The Greater Good. They are also the closest thing T’au have to psykers. Now Farsight hates the Ethereals. He’s convinced they use dark means to control the T’au and are evil. He kills those he can and shuns the use of them. And sure, they aren’t quite pyskers, but that’s some pretty Khornate behavior right there.
His Wargear
Farsight using a custom red battlesuit. Is this a Gundam/Char reference? Likely. Is red also the color of Khrone that he and his followers paint themselves? Also yes. In addition he’s almost unique among the T’au in using a close combat blade as his main weapon. The legendary Dawn Blade is made of alien tech. Or maybe it’s a daemon sword. It sure does some really strange stuff. I’m just saying… painting yourself red and going around chopping things up with a strange enormous sword is like Khrone 101!
Commander Farsight’s Body Guard
Farsight doesn’t have a normal bodyguard. He’s got the…. the Eight? Is that right? Eight like the number of Khorne? Eight RED battle suited comrades who like to get up-close and personal like Farsight. I mean… how did we not catch on to this?
Still Holding Out
In retrospect it’s kind of amazing how blatant the Khorne connection is. In a race of people who prefer ranged weapons, Farsight gets up close to chop thing down. He paints himself and his warriors red. He likes the number eight and hates the closest thing his people have to psykers. This guy feeds the Blood God well. Now, he’s not exactly a follower of Khorne, yet. He’s so far resisted the final fall, though he knows it could happen now. But he’s also not exactly pure. Likely he’s been subtly influenced by Khorne for a while, with this manifesting in Red and the Eight, etc.. He’d better continue to hold out, or soon enough Farsight might just become the first T’au Daemon Prince. Or maybe something worse.
But no worries, Fsrsight is currently speinding all his days on a seemingly reborn Arthas Moloch, the of his latest giant battle versus Chaos Damons, and the location where he first found the Dawnblade. I’m sure he’s headed for a totally non-eventful, and peaceful retirement there.
