Age of Sigmar: Spearhead, Launch Box, & More
Games Workshop is packing loads of goodies in the Launch box for Age of Sigmar on top of all those new minis. See for yourself!
We’ve already covered the Stormcast Eternals and the Skaven miniatures in the box. But there’s even more in the launch box to get you playing Warhammer: Age of Sigmar.
Say Hello To Skaventide
Inside the box are 24 Stormcast Eternals Miniatures and also 50 Skaven Miniatures. There’s also a 272-Page Hardback Core Book that covers all the lore up to the current story arc. Plus all the rules to play the game, too. There’s also the 144-Page Spearhead: Fire and Jade book that’s got Spearhead rules for EVERYONE to use.
And if Matched Play is more your thing (or when you build up to it) there’s also the General’s Handbook — but this time in Card Deck form! Speaking of Card Decks, there’s the 36-card Spearhead Deck for you and an opponent to use in conjunction with the new Spearhead double-sided boards to play on. There’s also 4 terrain peices to use with your Spearhead games, too.
Games Workshop has really stuffed this box to the gills with goodies. The books are also a slightly new spin on the lore of the world. It’s been written more as if you’re hearing about it directly from the citizen of the Mortal Realms. Narratively, this makes sense as we’re no longer getting that god’s-eye view of the Mortal Realms but more of that “mortal” once again.
Spearhead Is Full Steam Ahead
Games Workshop is also all-in this new Spearhead mode. It was a heavy focus as part of the presentation and it seems like a lot of work has gone into this mode. The games are supposed to take less than an hour and should be close battles with the Twists and Underdog mechanics. I think it sounds like a great way to jump into AoS and could also become a real competitive scene with the “Fixed” armies for each faction. We’ll see how the players respond to it this weekend as GW will be running Spearhead for players during the Dallas Open.
The launch box looks good. Now we just have to wait to get our hands on it!
