D&D’s 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide Alt Cover Stars The Ultimate Web-Spinner, Lolth
The alternate cover for the 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide has been revealed, and Lolth sits at the center, weaving a web of deadly schemes.
GamesRadar+ revealed the new 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide alternate cover. This is the cover that will be available at your friendly local gaming store when the book comes out, and will be unavailable otherwise. So if you’re hoping to snag it, you’ll need to get in touch with your very own FLGS.
But, the cover, like the alternate cover of the 2024 D&D Player’s Handbook, shows off a whole other style of the game. As GamesRadar notes, it reflects the Dungeon Master’s role in the game, one who spins webs that snare adventurers. Only instead of as prey, they’re snared in a web of fun and exciting stories.
2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide Cover Revealed
The alternate cover is the work of Olena Richards, whose work you’ll have seen across WotC’s various properties, including work on Magic: the Gathering. Richards’ Talion, the Kindly Lord is an astounding recent example.
I love the style of the new design. Lolth looks almost serene, and why shouldn’t she. She knows her prey is snared, and there’s nothing left to do but savor the feast to come.
And like the other cover images, this puts a prominent name from D&D’s in-world history right on the cover. Lolth, if you’re somehow unfamiliar, is the Queen of the Demonweb Pits. She was transformed after a fall from grace in the elven pantheon. And now, she rules the Drow of Menzoberranzan.
The Spider Queen is, of course, just one part of the puzzle. The new Dungeon Master’s Guide has plenty for DMs of all types. You might find advice on building adventures. Campaigns. The whole lot of it awaits inside.
Although the book itself won’t be out for a while. You’ll have to content yourself with Lolth. Fun fact, though, Lolth was originally designed as a deity in Greyhawk. And Greyhawk gets the centerstage of the new edition, so to speak. So it seems fitting that the demon goddess of dark elves would be front and center of a renewed focus on that setting.
Keep your eyes peeled for more details about the new DMG as November approaches. But in the meantime, all that’s left to see is the cover for the new Monster Manual.
Who would you put on the cover of the 2024 Monster Manual?
