Is the new Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team boxed set worth the price of admission? Let’s find out what kind of deal we’re getting.

It’s once again time to use the power of math to figure out what sort of a deal we’re getting (if any) on the new Kill Team Termination boxed set. There is some good stuff in the box and I kind of hope we see these squads get individual boxed set releases. Plus the terrain looks pretty nice, too. That said, let’s bust out the calculator and get to work!

Kill Team Termination Pricing Breakdown

Leagues of Votann Kill Team Contents:

10x  Hernkyn Yaegirs – ???

So right off the bat we’ve got a problem. The Hernkyn Yaegirs are a brand new unit. Uh oh! If only there was a comparable unit to compare them to…and only if that unit was also a Kill Team unit of 10 models. Oh, well look at that. The Kill Team: Hearthkyn Salvagers are just that unit! Are the models the exact same? Not at all. However, there are 10 of them and they are a Leagues of Votann Kill Team. They clock in at $60. Also keep in mind this is before the dreaded June Price Hike. So these prices might shift in a week or two.

Genestealer Cult Kill Team Contents:

Broodcoven – $70

Brood Brothers – $45

Brood Brother Accessory Sprue – ???

Once again we’ve hit a snag. Unfortunately we don’t really have a good comparison for this upgrade sprue that’s in the GSC miniatures range. Oh wait…yes we do. There’s a Genestealer Cults Upgrade Frame for $15. I’m willing to call that “close enough” if you are. Most of the times the Upgrade Frames are between $15-25 anyhow so I’m willing to lean on the lower end for this one.

There are some new terrain kits that look like chonky plasma-cell things. They look somewhere between the Thermic Plasma Regulators ($40) and the Haemotrope Reactors ($65). For the ease of argument/math, let’s just assume $50, that sound good? Plus those kits are Made-to-Order which means they are kind of annoying to get your hands on as you might have to wait up to 180 days.

There’s also all the books, water slide transfers, cards, and whatever else is in the box. But for the sake of the math, we’re just going to ignore those for now. So what are we looking at price wise?

Terrain – $50

Total estimated individual MSRP: $240

Price Point: $145

Total Estimated Savings: $95

Is this an estimate? Yes. Is it a good approximation? I think so! But is this a good deal? Well, that really depends on if you’ve got a use for both Kill Teams and the terrain, doesn’t it? Personally, I don’t have a Leagues of Votann army so that’s kinda dead weight for me. That said, I could easily see splitting this with a buddy for those GSC bits. If you need them that is… I’ve also got a Broodcoven from waaay back so I’m actually all set on that front, too. I’m also hoping we see those Brood Brother get a solo release later at which point I may pick them up then.

The terrain pieces are unique and cool looking though. Dunno if that’s worth the price of admission for me. But hey, you do you! Having said all that this will probably be the first crack at getting that new Hernkyn unit on the tabletop for 40k. If that’s something that interests you their rules are actually out right now and you’d be able to take them to your regular 40k games pretty quickly.
