Games Workshop has released a brand new “How To Play” video for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. Take your first steps back in to the Mortal Realms.

It’s an exciting time for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar players. The first official “How To Play” video is out from GW. Can you learn to play the game in just 8:32 minutes? It’s a tall task but this is actually a rather high-level overview. Check it out:

“Now, you can take a look at the new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar with the help of this handy how-to-play video, which will give you a clear idea of how the new rules work in practice. “

Age of Sigmar – Taking Your First Steps

Honestly, it’s not a bad overview! It certainly hits all the basics for the game. It covers the warscrolls, abilities, and all that jazz. Plus it hits the turn sequence and goes through each phase (again, at high level) at a pretty good pace. It doesn’t really get bogged down in the details or corner-case stuff either. But again, this is a “How To Play” and not a deep tactical dive into the minutiae of the game. That’s for later!

One of the big things to take away as someone who played in the previous editions is that pretty much everything for the unit is on the warscroll. Aside from universal keywords (located on the bottom of the warscroll but with rules in the core rule book) all your rules are right there. All of the units rules are either in the stat block or listed as color-coded abilities (with matching symbols) on the warscroll. Now you’ll know exactly when to use those abilities.

The video doesn’t cover lore, army construction, or any deep dives into army specific rules. That’s not really the point. However, I think it you’ve played a tabletop game at any point in your life, by watching this video you’ll at least be ready to stumble through a game of Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. At least once you get the warscrolls in your hand.

Personally, I plan on trying out Spearhead just to get a feel for the core gameplay and then jump as fast as possible in to “full sized” games of Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on the core box and rules first. Then, once I’ve read through those rules, I’ll probably take on the respective faction index of the army I want to start with first. Once that’s all out (all launching at the same time) it’s going to be game time!

Between the faction focus articles and the quick “How To Play” video from GW, I’m feeling up to the challenge of playing — are you ready for the new edition?
