The Blood Angels are sending in the Sanguinary Guard for the Assault on Castrum Velx in the lastest Exemplary Battles of the Horus Heresy.

There’s a brand new PDF you can download right now for a new Exemplary Battle of the Horus Heresy. The Assault on Castrum Velx is here and takes place after the betrayal at Calth. It features the Blood Angels racing to save an Ultramarine Gene-seed store under attack by the Night Lords. It’s brightly colored Sanguinary Guard against the midnight-clad Night Lords!

“The sons of Curze proved a fitting challenge to the IX Legion, and only by deploying a complement of Sanguinary Guard could victory be achieved. Known as the Ikisat, or the Burning Ones, these Legiones Astartes were tasked with the safety of the primarch Sanguinius – and only the most supremely talented warriors could rise to the rank of Sanguinary Guard.”

The Assault on Castrum Velx

Lore-wise there’s a nice chunk of story to chew on here. With a quick 6 pages to read you’ll be all set (at least lore-wise) to take on this mission. Ideally, you should probably use Sanguinary Guard with some fellow Blood Angels vs the Night Lords. At least if you want to be thematically accurate. Considering this PDF contains the rules for the Sanguinary Guard for use in your Horus Heresy games, this also seems appropriate. But hey, it’s not like the Warhammer Police are going to come to your game and stop you from playing if you want to just use the scenario rules for some other factions.

Secure The Keep

The Legendary Mission itself is called Secure The Keep. It has some different conditions for setup and victory. Again, it’s recommended for BLood Angels and Night Lords, but you can really use any army that can fit in a 2000 point Zone Mortalis Engagement.

The setup uses a slightly different sized board than you typical game — mostly because it’s a Zone Mortalis engagement. It’s played on a 4’x 4′ table and has some additional rules to follow.

This looks like a rather blood affair to take part in. The closer-quarters combined with the VP rules should lead to some brutal combats. Get ready for some up-close and personal fights! Both sides are known for their brutality in close quarters but again, you can use whatever Horus Heresy army you’d like to play. I could see some World Eaters really digging this type of fight.

Blood Angels and Night Lords in a Zone Mortalis Engagement? Sounds like a Cage Match to me!
