Games Workshop is making the Grand Narrative this year bigger than ever with two events influencing each other and the 40k universe!

For the uninitiated the Grand Narrative event for Warhammer 40,000 is a pretty big deal. It’s an annual event that GW does to really bring the hobby and the narrative together in a fun way. It also has a direct impact on the official canon which is also quite the treat for participants. Where else can you have an impact on the official lore of the Grimdark?!

This year, GW is outdoing themselves as well. They are going international with two events happening simultaneously.

via Warhammer Community

“Until now the event has only been held in the USA – last year 300 hobbyists descended on Atlanta on the same weekend as the World Championships of Warhammer. But we can now announce that this year the Grand Narrative will be happening simultaneously on two continents!

Tickets are already on sale for the American side of things, once again at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta from the 22nd to the 24th November. But you’ll also be able to battle for the fate of the galaxy at Warhammer World in the UK on the same weekend.

And these aren’t independent events, either. They will be inexorably linked, with the results of battles in the USA affecting the narrative in the UK, and vice versa.”

Grand Narrative Goes International

That’s right! If you’re playing in Atlanta, USA for the Grand Narrative not only are your games going to directly impact the canon, you’re also going to impact people playing across the pond at Warhammer World, UK! And the same is true for the UK players at Warhammer World impacting games happening in Atlanta. This is going to be an epic event no matter how you slice it.

Now, I’ve played in my fair share of narrative events. I’ve seen some super creative and interactive games linked games before. But I don’t think I’ve ever even heard of games linking across an ocean before! This is going to be quite the feat to pull off and I can’t wait to see the results and hear how GW sorts this one out. I can think of a few fun ways that players will be able to communicate across the Atlantic (if that’s allowed). How awesome would it be to have to coordinate with your fellow gamers and generals across the pond for a Grand Narrative event?

Event Details

Games Workshop is keeping things close to the chest. We’ll get more details as we get closer to the event. But we do have a few tidbits to work with.

“This year, the Grand Narrative turns its attention to the Chalnath Expanse, where desperate wars of faith and fury rage in the hellscape of the Imperium Nihilus. In one corner of this benighted region of space, three new Lords of War prepare to lead their forces in pursuit of knowledge, survival, or the will of the Dark Gods. “

Right now you can get tickets for the Grand Narrative in Atlanta. And the Warhammer World event will have tickets available on Monday! It’s going to be a chance to actually make a difference in the canon of the Warhammer 40,000 universe alongside hundreds of other Warhammer fans. That sounds like a fun weekend!

Good luck to everyone who’s participating or planning on going. The future of the Chalnath Expanse is in your hands!
