Space Marine II is coming soon and there’s a new video out showcasing the various modes, gore, and what else you can expect from this game.

The long awaited sequel to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is coming later this year. Today, we get a breakdown about the game modes with previews and even more goodies to show off. So let’s get into it!

Space Marine II Game Modes

Campaign – Story Mode

For the uninitiated Space Marine II is a third-person action shooter set in the Warhammer 40,000 “Grimdark” universe. You can play as (now demoted) Lieutenant Titus through the campaign. Alternatively, you can also play co-op with up to two more friends in seamless drop-in/drop-out multiplayer.

Personally, having played the previous title for hours, I can’t wait for this campaign. I keep going back and forth about if I want to play the first time with friends or not. If you’re not a fan of spoilers maybe make sure you and your real-life battle brothers are on the same page before you dive in together. I’m sure it’s going to be quite epic.

Operations – Co-op Mode

Beyond the campaign, there’s more ways to play. The Operations mode has a focus on “cooperation and replayability.” You’ll be able to choose one of six classes to play in this mode. Furthermore, you’ll also be able to customize your color and style with various options (with more unlocks along the way).

Additionally, you’ll gain experience and armory data which you can then use to unlock new class perks and improve your overall performance, too.

Eternal War – PvP mode

If you’re looking to throw down with other players in a more “competitive” mode then look no further than Eternal War mode. This is a 6v6 Player-vs-Player mode where you’ll be fighting against other players in arena-style battles.

So far, the PvP modes include

  • Deathmatch (6v6 aka team deathmatch)
  • Seize Ground
  • Capture and Control

There’s not too many details on the Seize Ground or Capture and Control modes. My guess is one of them is going to score you points the longer you’re holding/defending an objective area (that may or may not rotate) while the other mode is going to be more of a “fixed points on the map” that you’ll need to capture to score points. It’s hard to tell from the gameplay but you might get a score multiplier on kills based on how many points you’re currently holding, too.

Each game will score you more XP so you can expand your arsenal back at the battle barge. So the reward loop is there for either mode you choose to engage with.

More Surprises Coming Soon…

The video also teases that there are more surprises coming soon. I’m personally hoping we see the return of the Dreadnought mode which was later addition to the previous Space Marine game. Also, there’s some tidbits from the story in the video as it looks like there are some Thousand Sons and other Chaos forces around — not just Tyranids to fight.

I’d even like to see some mode of the game where you play as a squad of guardsmen trying to take out a Space Marine (think of Juggernaut mode in a Modern Warfare game).

Also, throughout the video there’s TONS of action to dissect. It’s looking amazing and I’m super excited about this one. The idea of fighting off endless swarms of Tyranids with couple buddies sounds like an AWESOME way to spend a few hours. Who am I kidding..a “few” hours? More like a few dozens if not hundreds of hours.

With the vast improvements and innovations to online play since the previous incarnation I’m sure there’s loads to do in this game. I’m hoping the replay value is there and it seems like with all those unlocks the “carrot” is certainly swinging. Let’s hope this one sticks the landing!

Space Marine II is slated for release on the 9th of September. It’s currently up for pre-order on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam and Epic Games Store.
