GW has released the latest Faction packs for Age of Sigmar 4.0. We’ve got the lowdown on the biggest changes for the hungry-hungry horrors, Flesh-eater Courts.

Welcome in, Generals of the Realms! Skaventide is out, the battle lines have been drawn, and we are firmly in the 4.0 season. If you’re anything like me, you’ve been chomping at the bit to see how your favorite faction fared in the update. Some are amazing, some are terrible, and most are a little bit of both. Whatever faction you play, there’s definitely been a massive shakeup in how you’re going to play.

The Flesh-eater Courts had an update right before the reshuffle, so I was most afraid of their new rules. I’ve been a fan of the Flesh-eater Courts, specifically their progenitor, Ushoran, so I was excited to see the new models. However, I didn’t get much time to enjoy them before the redo. While I wasn’t happy about that, to say the least, I was cautiously optimistic. After all, my favorite Rats were getting a powerful update, so they had to do right by the ghouls, right?

The Good: Big Guys

The biggest winners in the new Faction document were the “big guys,” like Ushoran and the Terrorgheist. Decaying wounds have become a lot less damaging to these monsters. While they still lose some of their power once they take damage, it doesn’t shut them down quite as hard. While Ushoran isn’t the powerhouse he used to be, he still holds up as a powerful centerpiece for your list. I wouldn’t say he’s an auto-include, but it does feel like a flavor fail if he isn’t at least nearby.

The Bad: Artefacts, Command Traits, and Subfactions

This isn’t really a commentary on the Flesh-eaters but more on the way factions are being handled in this edition. The loss of choices for artefacts and traits removes a lot of the customization for each army. Even more so, the lack of ability to cater to a specific subfaction hurts the FEC a lot. They had a really interesting playstyle at the end of 3.0, and every faction felt unique.

The Battle Formation replacement is fun, but it isn’t the same as an army of Hollowmourne knights bearing down on the enemy. However, we only just saw these updates. It may take a little time to show why they’re superior to the old way. I’m still salty, though.

How did your favorite faction do?
