Maximus is back after nearly a quarter century! So let’s travel back to the 1st century and check out some great Gladiator games.

No matter if you want to be in the shoes of gladiators who fight in the pits, the owner of the ludus who trains the fighters, the domini who run the show, or just watching and betting from the stands, we’ve got the game for you.

Gladiator – 4K UHD

Since it has been so long since the first movie came out, it wouldn’t hurt to have a quick refresher. I must admit, I don’t remember much about the movie, except that one scene that I recreate anytime I walk past some tall grass.

Spartacus: A Game of Blood and Treachery

I think Spartacus: A Game of Blood and Treachery is one of the most under rated games out there. It’s got a perfect balance of different systems that players will run through each round. There’s a market phase of buying and selling.. ahem… workers, where players can bicker and argue over who gets to run the next gladiator fight, then the fight itself! With plenty of open backstabbing and temporary partnership, it’s a game that will have you loving how much you hate your opponents.

Read more about the game here, or watch our How To Play video here.

For Glory: The Game of Gladiatorial Combat and Deck Building

For Glory is a deck building game where you play the owner of a ludus, a gladiatorial school. You’ll train up new students for the gladiator games, gain influence by sucking up to the important patrons, then battle your gladiators! Not only is building your deck vital to any deckbuilder, but in For Glory, when and how you play your cards is just as important. There’s also the Champions expansion, for even more bloody content!

Gladius

In Gladius, you can take a step back from fighting, training and focus on the best part of the gladiator fights: the betting! In Gladius, players are spectators of the fights. Each round, players secretly place bets on competing gladiator teams. Through the skillful use of underhanded tactics, players can help and hinder teams to alter the outcome of each battle. It’s a quick playing game that you’ll want to play time and time again.
