Marvel: Crisis Protocol – Five More Variant Versions We Want

It’s been a busy weekend for Marvel fans. To celebrate, it’s time to do some wish-listing for Marvel: Crisis Protocol.

Well, after a record-breaking movie weekend and some major announcements at SDCC, fans of Marvel Comics have a lot to be excited about. After throwing together a list featuring Deadpool and Wolverine and having watched the movie this past weekend myself, I’m excited to see what the future holds, too.

That said, there’s a bunch of obvious characters that could totally make the jump from the MCU to MCP. Or from the pages of the comics to the tabletop. Here’s a few more alternate/variant characters I’d love to see in MCP!

Patch (Wolverine)

To be fair, this isn’t really an alternate version of Wolverine as much as it is an alter ego. “Patch” is the alias Logan assumes as he’s goes undercover in Madripoor. I won’t go into all the details but Patch has also had run-ins with Joe Fixit (aka Grey Hulk) and other seedier elements of the criminal underworld. Look, it’s Logan mixed with James Bond…what more needs to be said?

Infamous Iron Man

I’ll spare you the theories on how I think Tony Stark will become Dr. Doom in the MCU. Anyhow, did you know there was actually a stint in the comics where Doom becomes Iron Man? That would be the Infamous Iron Man run. That’s right: This is the one and only Victor Von Doom as Iron Man. It takes place after the events of Civil War II. And it’s also got a tie-in with Mephisto — which I won’t spoil here. I’ve probably said enough as it is.

Obviously Doom-as-Iron-Man is sending up red flags for the other heroes and villains. Has he actually turned over a new leaf or is this just another plot? That’s kind of the entire point! Infamous Iron Man has a lot of potential and I think he could be a fun character in MCP because of that.

Lady Deadpool

You’ve probably seen all the theories about who could be Lady Deadpool in the movie. But I’m not diving into that mess. What I want to point out is that Lady Deadpool did have a few appearances. The Deadpool Corps for example.  Also, don’t confuse her with Gwenpool — they are very different characters.

Anyhow, Wanda Wilson is from Earth-3010. There’s a lot to unpack but the main point is she’s Deadpool, but a lady version. She’s just as deadly and has teamed up with Deadpool before. If we get a couple more ‘Pools in the mix, maybe we COULD have a Deadpool Corps Affiliation, too!

Daken

Daken is the Mutant son of Wolverine. Akihrio’s mother was Itsu, the deceased wife of Wolverine. Daken was kept hidden and raised by Romulus. I won’t get into ALL the backstory here but Daken has had an interesting character arc. During the Dark Avengers arc, he took the mantle of Wolverine — which is why I consider him a “variant” version. But really, he’s his own character now. And recent events have him coming back as yet another version of The Wolverine…

The Maker

I’m not sure why we still don’t have the Fantastic Four in MCP yet. But if I’m going to toss out a “good” version of Doom, I feel like we need an “evil” version of Reed Richards. Spoiler, the Maker is Reed Richards, but from the first Marvel Ultimate’s Universe. Why? Because COMICS! Again, it’s a lot to cover here but the short explanation is “what if Reed Richards survived his universe getting destroyed and would do anything to get back to it — and rule it!?” I’m glossing over a lot…but that’s all you really need to know. Oh, and he’s a little on the crazy side of evil genius. Sounds like a fun version to add to MCP if you ask me!

There’s SO MANY variants and alternate versions of characters in Marvel. Who would you add?
