Starfinder 2E’s playtest is going to be exciting when it launches in a few weeks. Today, we get a glimpse of the Witchwarper.

The Witchwarper class for Starfinder 2E is all about warping the very fabric of reality. They use magic, sure, but they also owe their powers to some sort of paradoxical event that has forever altered their very existence.

There are any number of reasons you might be a Witchwarper. Parallel reality collapsed, and you escaped from it. Someone messed with the timeline. Just plain old sci-fi stuff gone wrong, and now you’re inundated with some kind of reality-warping signature? You name it, you can work it into a Witchwarper’s backstory.

So what is a Witchwarper, exactly? In addition to being a spellcaster, a Witchwarper is also capable of creating a reality-warping quantum field. This is a class ability that used to be powered by spell slots, but now, in 2E, that reality-altering thing has come decoupled from the spell slot mechanic, specifically.

Now, Witchwarpers can take the Warp Reality action basically at will. That action activates your quantum field. And what that field does depends on what paradox and feats you select. So you’ll choose what flavor of powers you have.

Witchwarpers also get a new feature from an old 1E Starfinder class, the Precog. Now, Witchwarpers have that rolled in as one of the paradox options, and one of the things you can see is the new “Anchoring” trait, which can sustain their quantum field through an anchoring action granted by their anchor. Whatever that may be. It could be casting a spell, making a strike, all sorts of things are on thet able here.

So, if you’re keen to see how Witchwarpers, which were kind of a weird class in Starfinder 1E, have made the transition to the new edition, you’ll want to check out the playtest. It goes live in August, kicking off at Gen Con. And that’s right around the corner, folks!
