Strangelight Workshop returns — with your help of course! The standalone RPG from the Iron Kingdoms is heading to Kickstarter.

Ever since Steamforged Games got the rights to the Iron Kingdoms (aka Warmachine) they’ve been making some big moves. They’ve got a plan and they are getting the products in the pipe. So here’s yet another exciting development coming from Steamforged Games: Strangelight Workshop is returning with an up coming crowdfunding campaign.

“Investigate the occult and otherworldly in STRANGELIGHT WORKSHOP, a standalone roleplaying game set in the award-winning Iron Kingdoms universe that’s coming to Kickstarter this month!”

Right now, there’s just the “sign-ups” page for when this goes live (which should be later this month). Based on what information is out there right now this will be a 5E compatible ruleset. The setting is in the Iron Kingdoms but it’s been described as “Hellboy-meets-Ghostbusters” but with that classic Iron Kingdoms Steampunk vibe.

I don’t know about you, but to me that sounds pretty awesome. Also, there’s a bit of a puzzle with their announcement. Spoilers for the text at the bottom.

“We’re beyond excited to lift the veil and share further details on this otherworldly TTRPG. Compatible with fifth edition, Strangelight shines an eerie new light on the Iron Kingdoms, focusing on teams of field agents undertaking supernatural investigations.

Enter the Iron Kingdoms, a world where arcane science and steam power combine to create wonders that have revolutionized civilization. Yet, lurking on the fringes of progress are dangerous creatures — specters, phantoms, infernals, and eldritch beings.”

Here’s a hint: look for the bold letters.

There’s more to the text but again, this sounds fun. Considering that Strangelight Workshop was already an award winner before, this seems like a hit waiting to be made. It’s also worth noting that Matt Goetz who was the original designer is back to work on this project, too. And, not to get too hyped up, Steamforged Games already has an incredible line-up of 5E goodies with the Epic Encounters series. I trust them to know what they are doing with this one.

So, again, to reiterate: The folks that have created the fantastic Epic Encounters set are redoing the Strangelight Workshop RPG set in the Iron Kingdoms and it’s 5E compatible. And the original designer is also working on this project. And it’s coming to Kickstarter later this month. Yeah…

I think I know where I stand with this one.

Spoiler: The bold letters in the full text spell out “HELP ME KELLER” not once, but twice. Anyone want to take a stab at what that could mean?
