There’s still a lot of Warhammer 40K armies that need a 10th Edition codex. These need it the MOST!

Goatboy here with the top five armies that need a Codex.  Whether they need to get updated to remove rules that are just bad for the game, or need a codex to finally feel like a real army – here are the top armies that need that need an update – yesterday!  A few of the current Index Detachments still feel good enough and while the units in the book need to be fixed will not worry about updating their book.

5. Chaos Knights

Here is am index that just feels half-baked right now on the Detachment front.  Their army rule just doesn’t work that well, they really only have a few Stratagems, and their Enhancements are just not that exciting.  This Codex just needs a true refresh and even if there is only three detachments in there – Chaos Knights need something – anything!  I can see them doing an Iconoclast one, a Dark Mechanicus one, and finally a “God Marked” like one to fill them out.  Just dump their overall rules, dump that initial index detachment, and give us a Psychic War Dog to play with.

4. Aeldari

Another index that feels like they just need an update to make all those poor Space-Elf players feel better.  I think we’ll see one soon enough just due to all the wishes for updated Aspect Warrior minis and continued hits with a nerf bat they got along the way this edition.  I just hope when we do see it that index Detachment is fully updated, they get a few cool ones, and they continue to have the Harlequins locked into their Codex.

3. Grey Knights

I’m very suspicious of the rumors of the Grey Knights going away, as there is just too much plastic in their range.  It is also an iconic army for 40K and that feels like a bit of sadness if they got folded into something else like an Imperial Agents release or an Inquisition update.  This is another index that has army rule that probably needs to be toned down while they make the rest of the army is made a bit more aggressive, and flesh them out with more Detachments, Stratagems, and more.

2. Astra Militarum

Here is a book that always had some bad options that feel absurd when you look at all the Astra Militarum rules.  Bullgryns are just nuts with a good invulnerable save, damage reduction, and a ton of wounds on top of it all.  I think it and some other units just need a complete refresh, a la the Sororitas and in a way that doesn’t make them absurd.  Also they should just gut all the Astra Militarum Forge World stuff, replace some of it in plastic, and call it a day.  Continue the FW cuts and let us get to a game where people can actually buy the things for the army from their local store.

1. Blood Angels

The Space Vampires are an army that is just living on the broken index mechanic of making all upgrades free.  Do you know you can’t build a new Blood Angels army without either buying a ton of kits you can’t use, 3d printing all the parts, IF you can even find all the pieces?  Here is a list that can move fast, hit hard, and shoot you so hard it is nuts.  I am hoping the rumors of them getting a codex soon are true. Till then we all eagerly wait to see the Melta Pistol monstrosity finally brought to heel.

There are a ton of other codexes that need updates but I think their current index options are still pretty good.  They feel like their choices would most likely still be taken and while only really Thousand Sons feels a bit too powerful all the other ones feel just about right.

What book do you want to see an update?  Are you afraid your Index Army will get gutted as your detachment is wrecked from the ground up?  Are you worried you will get an Ad-Mech style book at first and have to wait 6+ months to get a bit better?
