Games Workshop just revealed a ton of new info about the upcoming Age of Sigmar Battletomes. But I’m most excited about the Gamer’s Editions.

The Battletomes for AoS 4th Edition are getting a revamp. They have been redesigned as a “complete and comprehensive” guide to the factions. While that does sound like what they were already, GW elaborates more.

via Warhammer Community

“As ever, each battletome for Warhammer Age of Sigmar is designed to be a complete and comprehensive guide to your faction, covering background and rules, alongside pages and pages of gorgeous art and miniatures – but it now all works differently.

Battletomes now open with a fresh perspective: a lore section presenting a faction from their own point of view, alongside those of their enemies, allies, and other characters in the Mortal Realms. There’s gorgeous art and photography on every page, showcasing everything that makes each faction special.”

There’s a lot of other changes and more info which you can read about from WarCom directly. That’s great! I’m excited about the revamp structure and even some of the suggested tactics coming in the book. I also like the shifts in perspective as the lore is written more from the PoV of the faction while the other sections are more “omniscient” in their writing. But, to be honest, I’m actually more excited about the new Gamer’s Edition more than these changes.

Gimme The Gamer’s Edition, Please

What are the new “Gamer’s Edition” versions of the Battletomes? Here’s what GW says:

“Each Battletome will also be released as a Gamer’s Edition. These are smaller, softback editions which contain everything in the larger volumes, but in a compact form for use at the tabletop. They are packaged with an expanded set of Warscroll cards that cover everything you need to play – Battle Traits, Battle Formations, Heroic Traits, Artefacts of Power, plus Spell, Prayer, and Manifestation Lores, and then all of your units.

There’s a small sleeve in the back cover to store these cards – it’s a complete package. These are designed for players who regularly attend events and tournaments, and they will be released in limited numbers alongside the regular books.”

Uh…YES, please. Look, even if you’re not traveling around the world for tournaments you’re probably still taking your stuff with you to your game night. Even if it’s at your friends house down the street having an easy to transport softcover WITH a slot for your reference cards is a win. In the past, I’ve picked up the hardback and the reference cards for play. And yeah, I just kind of dealt with them and it was fine. But this is an option I didn’t know I wanted.

I don’t know if the cards in the Gamer’s Edition will be the same as the ones pictured or if they will be formatted differently. Frankly, I don’t care — I want to get the Gamer’s Edition when those become available. My one worry is that they are going to sell out faster than I can get my hands on the ones I need for my army. They are essentially replacing the limited edition and that’s a bit of a bummer. To be honest, I kind of wish it was the other way around…

I hope these Gamer’s Editions are all they are cracked-up to be. And I hope they become the new normal for Battletomes!
