Looking to give your D&D Monk some Magic Items? Well here’s a handy guide to some of the best magic items for Monks. At least for now.

In D&D, giving your Monk magic items can often be a precarious prospect. After all, what do you give the character whose big function is using unarmed strikes, which, famously, don’t require weapons? Or whose primary means of defense is an Unarmored Defense, which again, hard to give items to when you’re not wearing armor?

Well don’t worry. Whether you’re playing a Monk in D&D or just DMing for one, here are some of the best magic items for Monks.

Wraps of Unarmed Prowess

These are an incredibly basic magic item that didn’t officially exist in D&D until last year, when The Book of Many Things came out. In it, were a number of magic items, including these magical wraps, which while you’re wearing them, make your unarmed strikes count as magic and gain anywhere from a +1 to a +3 to attack and damage rolls.

Yeah, it’s basically a magic weapon but its your fists. And, since technically it’s a wondrous item that doesn’t take up a specific slot on your body or anything, you can combo these wraps with other items.

Bracers of Defense

Like the Bracers of Defense, for instance. These humble bracers give you a +2 to your AC while you’re not wearing armor or carrying a shield. Which, if you’re a Monk and hoping to benefit from Monk stuff, is going to be most of the time. While some armored Monks exist, most will be forgoing the safety of steel.

Adding these bracers can give you a respectable AC boost.

Winged Boots

Monks are inherently an extremely mobile class. They move fast, andthey c an go faster through the use of their various abilities. So adding something like Winged Boots, which give you a fly speed equal to your other speeds (very fast if you’re a Monk) can turn you into something like a self-propelled missile, hurtling across the battlefield to deliver stunning fists and other strikes.

Staff of Striking

Speaking of strikes, the Staff of Striking is a great addition to any Monk’s arsenal, because it’s a +3 staff, but when you hit someone with it, you can spend up to 3 charges to make your staff deal a bonus 1d6 per charge. Which means you could deliver multiple attacks with the staff, spending charges and potentially dealing an extra 10d6 in a single turn, on top of the damage you normally do. Though if you spend that last charge, there is a five percent chance it will become nonmagical.

Gloves of Soul Catching

Finally, we havethe Gloves of Soul Catching. These gloves, out of Candlekeep Mysteries, are an extremely powerful Monk item. For one, they let you deal 2d10 extra force damage when you make an unarmed strike. But then, on top of that, you regain hit points equal to that extra force damage. And if that wasn’t enough, you could instead choose to gain advantage on an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw you make before your next turn ends.

But then also, they set your Constitution score to 20. So on top of all of that, they make you extremely beefy, with an enhanced saving throw and hit point total as a result.
