The wildly chaotic and fun turn-based shooter, Worms, is coming to the tabletop in Worms: The Board Game!

It’s been over a year since we got the initial announcement for Worms: The Board Game. But now the game is available for pre-order direct from Mantic Games.

Worms: The Board Game Overview

Worms, the video game, is a turn-based tactical shooter between multiple teams of worms. The worms use bazookas, grenades, and air strikes to take each other out. But in addition to those normal (read: boring) weapons, worms can open crates around the map for better weapons. These are things like Exploding Sheep, The Holy Hand Grenade, and the infamous Concrete Donkey, which falls from the heavens, absolutely destroying everything in its wake.

Worms can either reduce each others health to 0, or blast them into the water for instant drowning. Most weapons will destroy the landscape, making it easier and easier on each turn to prod another worm into the drink.

Worms: The Board Game follows much of the same mechanics as the source material. The game begins with building the map. Each player will get to place their own map tile, so each game will play on a different map. Then, players get to place their team of worms, as well as proximity mines and explosive oil barrels around the board. Then the fun begins!

Players take turns moving and shooting with their worms with their hand of weapon cards. Of course, opening a crate will give newer and better weapons as well. When a worm moves, they can inch to an adjacent hex, or jump for more distance. But be careful! You won’t always land where you expect when jumping, especially when accounting for wind speed.

When a worm is ready to shoot, they pick one of their weapon cards and fire! Each weapon works a little differently, but most will require some roll to determine how accurate the attack was. But even a missed attack will land somewhere. Just hope it’s not on your own worms. Any Blast weapons will damage the landscape. If a hex ever is damaged 3 times, it is replaced with a water hex, which is deadly to worms!

Once one player is fully eliminated, the game plays for 1 more round, then the player with the most worms left standing wins! Or play through Sudden Death, as the land starts sinking around you until there’s one final victor.

Worms: The Board Game is just as frantic and wild as the video game. If you’re looking for a game that’s equal parts strategy and chaos, you’ll love Worms.
